ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through the efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.

Equipment Service Worker IIs perform skilled servicing, mechanical maintenance, and minor repair of automotive, heavy duty, and other motorized equipment.

Duties include:
  • Patching and repairing tires.
  • Performing routine servicing and maintenance of engines, transmissions, chassis, air conditioning and tune ups.
  • Repairing and replacing wheel bearings, brakes, balancing tires and wheels.
  • Maintaining service parts and inventory records.
  • Installing and fabricating City decals, light bar kits, arrow boards, dash switches, electrical wiring, gauges, and other equipment and components.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • General knowledge of all vehicular systems including but not limited to engine, transmission, chassis, air conditioning, hydraulics, electrical, and tune up.
  • Fundamentally sound in metal working to include MIG welding and the use of an oxy-acetylene torch.

SALARY

Pay Range: $20.51 to $30.31 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.51 to $24.93 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in automotive servicing, maintenance, and repair of vehicular equipment.
  • Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • May be scheduled to work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings.
  • Automotive Service Equipment (ASE) Certifications in either light duty automotive or heavy equipment.
  • Experience in:
    • Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing of vehicle systems.
    • Alternative fuels and fuel management practices.
    • Emergency vehicle technician.
    • Off road vehicles.
    • Welding and fabrication.
