Position Information

As Fleet Maintenance & Repair Shop Supervisor in the San Antonio District, you will oversee support operations for maintenance, repair, surplus equipment, vehicle in-service, and provide input on equipment specifications. You and your staff will provide customer service, technical, and logistical support for TxDOT employees located in nine counties in the Atlanta area. Maintaining customer relations is key!

During emergency situations, you may be required to work hours other than r egularly scheduled including nights, holidays, and weekends.

Position Description

Oversees and coordinates operations in a Fleet Operations Division Equipment Shop. Supervises a group of administrative and skilled craft employees responsible for the repair and maintenance of TxDOT vehicles and equipment. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties:

  • Inspects and evaluates equipment condition and makes repair/replacement recommendations.
  • Oversees and coordinates work of an equipment shop(s).
  • Recommends and coordinates training for shop employees.
  • Recommends equipment specifications.
  • Oversees the vehicle and equipment make-ready process.
  • Serves as a division liaison to district personnel, vendors, and surplus equipment bidders.
  • Approves all completed work orders in the fleet information management system daily.
  • Recommends and monitors maintenance service contracts.
  • Provides guidance regarding difficult or unusual repairs of vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others to include setting goals and creating performance improvement plans to address performance issues.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

    • 9 years of experience in automotive, medium/heavy truck, or construction equipment diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
      • Associate's degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology may substitute for 2 year's experience.
      • Certificates of course completion from a Technical Training Institute in Automotive and Diesel Technology may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
    • Must have three years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.

  • Commercial Driver's License

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device.
  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs. at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
  • Reaching-extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another.
  • Talking, expressing, or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
  • Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
