Description

I. Purpose of Job

Under general supervision, performs duties as a lead mechanic diagnosing, inspecting, maintaining and performing major repairs of complex systems on small equipment, cars and light trucks, heavy trucks, and construction equipment to extend the service life of the equipment and vehicles.

II. Essential Job Duties

A. Performs mechanic duties
  • Diagnoses complex vehicle and equipment systems such as engine, transmission, braking, climate control, electrical, electronic, steering and driveline to determine repair requirements.
  • Performs major repairs on equipment and vehicle systems such as engine, transmission, braking, climate control, electrical, electronic, fuel, pneumatic, hydraulic, steering and driveline.
  • Troubleshoots vehicle systems using computer interfaces and generic code scanners to obtain trouble codes from vehicle Engine Control Module (ECM).
  • Services engines, transmissions, differentials, fuel systems, braking systems, climate control systems, and hydraulic systems by changing fluids and filters, and flushing systems in accordance with manufacturers specifications.
  • Welds, fabricates, and cuts metal as needed.
  • Uses micrometers, calipers, pressure gauges, dial indicators and other precision instruments to determine working clearances on mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Orders required parts, materials and supplies as needed.
  • Inspects and adjusts tools used in the performance of duties.
  • Performs road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to insure quality of repairs and service.
  • Attends training classes and seminars.
Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a one year certificate from college or technical school, plus three to four years of vehicle maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Certifications/Licenses:
  • Master Technician ASE Certification in Auto and Truck required within two years of hire.
  • TN Driver License
  • CDL Class B required within a year of hire.
