Job Role Summary

Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all MCPHD and Health & Hospital Corporation vehicles and mounted/carried equipment to maximize efficiency. Duties include maintenance logistics, record keeping, vehicle management, team management, inventory/cost control, vehicle repair, and troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks. The Fleet Manager is responsible for supervising the corporation mechanics. Makes administrative decisions concerning repair recommendations with consideration to the overall condition/age of the current fleet. Recommends replacements of vehicles and equipment.

Associated Job Duties
  • Oversees the maintenance of all MCPHD and HHC corporate-owned vehicles; including establishing maintenance schedules, developing work procedures, and verifying completed work is to industry standards.
  • Maintains detailed records of work performed on vehicles and equipment. Keeps inventory of repair parts and other supplies with regard to maximizing budget expenditures.
  • Prioritizes own work and subordinate's schedule; receives general assignments but works somewhat independently
  • Collects vehicle life cycle data to make recommendations for vehicle replacement.
  • Performs standard maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment; including, but not limited to, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, computer and electrical diagnostics, wheel replacement, installing approved accessory items
  • Conducts automotive road tests to diagnose problems and follow up on repairs or service
  • Makes emergency repairs to vehicles/equipment in field service
  • Maintain tools, repair parts, and garage areas in a state of neat and orderly readiness to facilitate response to emergency calls for service/assistance
  • Performs other job-related duties made necessary by existing conditions/circumstances or as assigned, and performs adulticiding
  • Participates as a member of Risk Management Team/Emergency Preparedness Transportation Manager
  • Be on call for after-hours for vehicle emergencies for fleet vehicles. Take home vehicle is provided, in accordance with the corporation's Take-Home Vehicle Policy
  • Participates in public health emergency preparedness exercises and in the response to public health emergencies, as directed
  • Participates in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling a minimum of eight (8) hours annually
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma (or equivalent), with at least five years of varied increasingly responsible experience in field of automotive/truck mechanics; graduation as mechanic from accredited technical school and two years of related work experience may serve as alternative preparation
  • Valid Indiana driver's license; able to obtain class "A" CDL license
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Skilled in use of mechanic's standard auto-truck repair/tools and testing equipment (e.g. tire tools, compression gauge, timing light, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of engines of fleet vehicles (cars, trucks) and equipment (vehicle-mounted/carried)
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and their application in garage or field setting
  • Thorough understanding of automotive computers required
  • Skilled in the use of advanced electrical systems and theories
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment; diagnose mechanical problems; perform standard repairs to department machinery; use reference/repair manuals; be flexible to changing work priorities; keep accurate /complete records regarding service inventory
  • Knowledge required to effectively supervise subordinate employees
  • Must continually attend mechanical/automotive schools and trainings to stay updated on the latest technologies relating to the job

Special Effort Required:
  • Occasionally required to lift heavy objects, work in awkward or strained positions
  • Occasional periods of stress due to heavy workload, unexpected problems
  • May be required to work irregular hours
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervises two employees
Working Environment:
  • Noise, grease, etc., associated with work in garage area
  • Occasional hazardous conditions, exposure to weather conditions on emergency service runs
