ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through the efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.

The Public Works Department is looking for a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to be responsible for the operation of a large fleet maintenance shop servicing up to 1,400 pieces of equipment and directing the work of approximately 35 employees who are responsible for the repair and maintenance of automotive, heavy duty, emergency, and other motorized equipment.

Duties include:
  • Responsibility for an average annual budget of $4 million.
  • Report writing and use of fleet management specific software programs.
This position supervises Equipment Shop Foremen and other equipment/automotive repair staff.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Willing to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Knowledge of:
  • Contracting procedures and proper use for vehicle repairs.
  • Business computers and Microsoft software applications.
  • Principles and processes for providing exceptional customer service.
Ability to:
  • Ensure best practices including safety procedures and maintaining operational policies and standards.
  • Direct and coordinate financial and budget activities to fund operations and increase efficiency.
  • Effectively communicate and convey information to staff, City management and customers.

SALARY

Pay Range: $80,454.80 to $118,872.00 annually.

Hiring Range: $80,454.80 to $102,668.80 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of skilled experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and mechanical equipment.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • Willing to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience with:
  • Fleet maintenance software systems.
  • Budget management.
  • Working with labor management.
  • Government fleet process and procedures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Contract and vendor monitoring.
  • Public safety, heavy truck and/or refuse equipment maintenance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Managing a large and diverse fleet maintenance operation.
