Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To provide Professional Registered Nurse services to patients from admission to discharge. Provide assessment, evaluation, and monitoring in the surgical Service Department. Supervises and directs support staff in the deliver of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide total bedside Nursing Care to assigned patients through assessment of patients' needs. Developing an interdisciplinary plan of care which reflects and individualized mode of nursing ad medical intervention so that the appropriate outcome can be achieved in a timely manner.
2. Initiates a Nursing Assessment and Interdisciplinary Plan of Care upon admissions which reflect expected patient outcomes, patient teaching and discharge plan according to established guidelines.
3. Allow patient and/or significant others, as much as possible to collaborate in plan of care Develop discharge plan in collaboration with physician, patient/family other discipline utilizing available resource.
4. Executes physician orders concerning medication and therapy and evaluates patient response with a clear understanding of the scientific principles of cause and effects.
5. Collaborates with the head Nurse in delegating assignments for nursing personnel based on patient's acuity and employee skill level.
6. Records pertinent observations on patient chart and reports findings to Head Nurse and/or physician.
7. Evaluates the results of nursing intervention and makes appropriate changes when necessary.
8. Able to monitor suicidal patients and document observations as per hospital policy.
9. Administer medications and treatments in safe knowledgeable manner and document same according to hospital policy, procedure and professional standards.
10. Prepares for and assist with diagnostic procedures and treatment.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. One (1) year of clinical nursing experience in the specialty area in which assigned to float; and
3. Holds or obtains a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
