Piper Companies is currently seeking a Food Engineer for a company that is an innovative start-up revolutionizing the food industry by leveraging cutting-edge biotechnology through the development and commercialization of cultivated meat products. Being the first of it's kind in the entire world to launch! The Food Engineer will be helping create and improve the process of how the food is made while they near the completion of a new plant and prepare for commercialization. This is a fully onsite position Monday-Friday in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, with the ability to travel up to 50% of the time.

Responsibilities of the Food Engineer:
  • Lead projects focused on known and new methods to produce alternative protein and hybrid products.
  • Take full ownership of relevant pilot-scale test performed in the company's test center.
  • Help with the commissioning of new equipment, and identify new production technologies to be implemented in the future.
  • Perform test and evaluations of new technologies at external test center's around the country
  • Carry out of all relevant lab tests during the development and industrialization phases of product development projects.
  • Collaborate with external partners to work on innovative technologies.


Qualifications of the Food Engineer:
  • BS/MS in Food Engineering, Food Science, or a related technical degree
  • 5+ years in food production process development, optimization, and equipment commissioning within the food industry
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing and familiarity with codes, regulations, SQF, HACCP, and other relevant standards
  • Experience in plant-based or meat-production processes is preferred


Compensation for the Food Engineer:
  • Salary Range: $85,000-$95,000, depending on years of experience, 10 % bonus
