DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director of Basic Needs with a dotted line to the Associate Director, Student Governments, Auxiliaries, & Services, the Food Security Programs Coordinator provides direct student support services from Basic Needs to help undergraduate and graduate students thrive in and out of the classroom by assuring their basic needs have been met. The Food Security Programs Coordinator is responsible for the management of the CalFresh Outreach program and establishing meaningful connections with campus and community partners to provide cohesive services, information, and programs to UC San Diego students in the area of basic needs. This includes connecting students to emergency relief programs such as the Triton Food Pantry and Graduate Food Pantry, CalFresh and other supplemental nutrition assistance programs in addition to education on basic needs skills. The Food Security Programs Coordinator participates in the campus community in the planning, coordinating, implementing and assessing of existing programs and services, assessing existing food security programs and developing new initiatives designed to identify and meet the needs of under-resourced and high-need students.

The Food Security Programs Coordinator also participates in identifying gaps in services and developing services to fill the gaps. Responsible for the education and outreach of the food security programs portfolio to students, staff, faculty, and community members. Works closely with a multitude of campus departments. Directly advises and/or supervises food security program teams as well as serves as a liaison between the Basic Needs Center and Associated Students for food security services. The work produced by this position requires strong knowledge and experience in areas of health and wellness, student advocacy, food and housing, insecurity, community support resources and economic emergency management. The position will provide support in case management matters, including face-to-face meetings, with students.

Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in social work, community health, higher education, human services, or other related area and/or a minimum of 3 years of demonstrated and progressive student services professional experience or a combination of education & experience. However, Masters degree preferred in social work, community health, higher education, human services or other related area.
• Preferred knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer recruitment, supervision, motivation and evaluation.
• Knowledge of services and resources available to food insecure students, and experience developing partnerships and cultivating collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituencies including state, location, and national organizations focused on serviced food insecure students
• Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. *Demonstrated experience in advising students in program development and assessment, budget management, and student staff hiring, development, supervision and evaluation. Demonstrated experience in counseling and crisis intervention particularly with low income and special needs students.
• Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs / Student Life specialization. *Working knowledge of undergraduate and graduate student development theories to explain college student behavior, including psychosocial theories, cognitive/structural theories, and ecological and integrative theories.
• Analytical and research abilities required to assess needs and satisfaction levels of customers and to interpret this information in order to make recommendations for improving or adding services.
• Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance.
• Experience with web-based technology. Familiarity with Microsoft Office, GoogleDocs, and various social media platforms (Snapchat, Twitter, YouTube, etc.)
• Abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills.
• Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. *Proven ability to develop, implement, and market new outreach programs and provide consultation services.
• Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
• Solid interpersonal communications skills to build and foster a collaborative and cooperative work environment and ability to build upon good working relations with internal and external partners at all organizational levels and with students.
• Understands the complexity of elements important to members of other cultures in relation to multiple dimensions, including history, values, politics, communication styles, economy, or beliefs and practices.
• Analytical and research abilities required to assess needs and satisfaction levels of customers and to interpret this information in order to make recommendations for improving or adding services.
• Knowledge of student security and privacy requirements including FERPA (Family Educational Required Rights and Privacy Act).
• Strong knowledge and experience in areas of health and wellness, student advocacy, food and housing, insecurity, community support resources and economic emergency management.

It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,700 - $97,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.16 - $46.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
