Under the Fair Labor and Standards Act this position is exempt from overtime. Actual salary placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Frederick County Public School System.

Role

Under the direction of the FNS Warehouse Supervisor, the Warehouse Specialist for Food and Nutrition Services receives, stores, issues, inspects, packs, and accounts for inventory supplies, equipment, and food products. The primary difference between this job description and a Warehouse Specialist is that this position spends approximately 70% of his/her time working in the warehouse freezer and/or refrigerator.

Essential Functions
  • All warehouse orders are pre-picked and staged for the following day's delivery and in accordance to the schools that have a scheduled order date to follow. These dates are to be followed by the warehouse team at all times, unless otherwise directed by the Supervisor of Operations.
  • Reviews and verifies inventory received against bills of lading (BOL), contracts, purchase requests, and shipping documents.
  • Visually inspects, counts, and segregates incoming inventory supplies, equipment, repair parts and food products. If any variance from improper quantities, damaged product, improper quality, unacceptable dates on perishable items, those need to be submitted to the FNS Warehouse Supervisor the same day.
  • Packs/unpacks, loads/unloads and palletizes incoming inventory and assigns to proper storage locations, shrink-wraps inventory for storage and shipment.
  • Verifies unit of issue, item descriptions, quality, and condition according to information shown on shipping documents.
  • Places current date on each item to ensure proper rotation of stock.
  • Segregates damaged containers and supplies and contacts vendors for discrepancies on order quantity or as appropriate.
  • Act as lead for individuals assigned as "food and nutrition services helper"
  • Selects correct inventory for issue and shipment and marks each item for delivery with correct MSR number.
  • Maintains copies of customer material stock request in proper file and addresses shipments to customers.
  • Loads food and nutrition service trucks daily.
  • Acts as the lead for individual assigned as "food and nutrition services helper".
  • Operates Material Handling Equipment (MHE) including manual/electric forklifts, handcarts, and dollies to load, unload, relocate, palletize, and segregate inventory and equipment. Performs preventative maintenance checks and service on MHE. Inspects MHE for serviceability.
  • Packs, crates, and bands inventory and equipment for shipment or storage. Cleans items for preservation and/or packaging.
  • Performs monthly inventory completed at the end of each month. Establishes and maintains stock location files. Assists in inventory accounting administration. Assists FNS Warehouse Supervisor in solving discrepancies in stock. Completes inventory count sheets and records variances.
  • Checks all rodent traps daily and records findings.
  • Checks and records, twice daily, refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
  • Maintains security by ensuring that doors to refrigerator and freezer are locked at all times.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the Food and Nutrition Services Warehouse, refrigerator and freezer at all times.
  • Operates office machines.
  • Practices safety measures at all times (wears safety shoes, uses safety pallet, wears cold weather clothing when needed, and keeps work area clear of clutter, etc.).
Performs other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Manager.

Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license. A commercial driver's license (CDL) with airbrake certification may be required within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years' experience in warehouse and inventory control procedures.
  • Three (3) years' experience in the storage and handling of supplies and equipment.
  • Experience in the storage and handling of dry, refrigerated and frozen foods, and produce.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs.
