Position Summary:

This position plays a critical role in providing nutritious meals to students in a safe and welcoming environment. The Food Service Worker will work under the supervision of the Child Nutrition Manager to ensure efficient operations and adherence to food safety guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)
  • Possession of a food handler certification or willingness to obtain
  • Three years of related experience
  • Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables
  • Portion and serve food items according to standardized recipes and portion sizes
  • Set up serving lines, salad bars, and beverage stations before meal times
  • Ensure food is served at the correct temperatures and in compliance with food safety regulations
  • Greet students and staff in a friendly and courteous manner during meal service
  • Assist students with selecting menu items and provide information on food choices
  • Address any concerns or special dietary needs of students in a professional manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen and dining areas
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment using approved sanitation methods
  • Clean and sanitize food service areas, including tables, countertops, and serving stations
  • Dispose of food waste and recyclables properly and in accordance with health regulations
  • Follow established procedures for receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies
  • Monitor food inventory levels and report shortages or discrepancies to the Child Nutrition Manager
  • Maintain accurate records of meals served and meal counts for reporting purposes
  • Communicate effectively with the Child Nutrition Manager and other staff to address issues and implement improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administrators

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
