Job Duties

For more than 35 years, the Virginia Lottery has been building an amazing organization committed to growth and giving back - and having fun while doing it. Operating entirely on revenue from game sales, rather than tax dollars, the Virginia Lottery generates more than $2.0 million per day for Virginia's K-12 public schools. The Virginia Lottery also licenses and regulates casino gaming and mobile sports betting.

The Virginia Lottery, an independent state agency, is currently seeking a Forecasting and Data Analyst to join our Finance team. This position is located in Richmond, Virginia.
The Forecasting and Data Analyst will:
* Generate long and short-term sales forecasts.
* Forecast jackpots and product sales for internal and external users.
* Design products, promotions, and contests, including odds and game matrices, through quantitative analyses and industry research.
* Conduct analyses of trends, market impacts, hypothetical scenarios, game design changes and equipment placement.
* Perform interdepartmental research and planning for agency executive management.
* Design and implement a wide range of analyses, including forecasting models, simulation and other probabilistic models, cost/benefit analyses, and policy and legislative impact analyses.
* Design, create, and manage databases for use in analyses and reporting.
* Validate probability and behavior of active games and games in development.
* Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned/required.

Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The person selected for this position will have:

* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year college or university with major studies in Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related field.
* Minimum two years experience or education in regression/econometric modeling/forecasting.
* Knowledge and/or work experience in the application of probability theory.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong organizational and time management skills and be detail-oriented.
* Ability to effectively manage multiple projects of varying complexities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, including active listening skills, as well as oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively.
* Capability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical concepts to a wide audience.
* Experience with constructing database applications including imbedded calculations.
* Excellent critical thinking skills.
* Strong judgment and decision-making skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access).

A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Additional Considerations

* Master's Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Data Science, Industrial Engineering, Business or related field.
* Knowledge of the economic, demographic, and social characteristics of Virginia.
* Understanding of Virginia State Government.
* Familiarity with the operation of state lotteries and the lottery industry.
