Primary Function:

Under the direction of the Forensic Nurse Coordinator, the Forensic Nurse in the SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner) Center will provide specialized forensic examination services to survivors of sexual assault, elder abuse, intimate partner violence, strangulation, child abuse, assault and human trafficking patients which will include evidence collection, administration of prophylactic medications, and advocacy utilizing a survivor-centered approach. He/she demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide forensic care coordination for patients of any age.

Unit based per-diem employees must submit 36 hours of clinical availability each six week schedule. If a unit based per-diem employee works for another employee or attends a mandatory course or competency, this does NOT count toward the required 36 hours. If you call out for one of your scheduled shifts, you must make it up by the end of the 6 week schedule. 12 hours must consist of weekend time. Unit based per- diem staff are expected to schedule themselves on or around essential/nonessential holidays/weekends.

Qualifications

Education & Training:
  • BSN preferred, RN required
  • Completion of SANE-A certification and/or willingness to become certified. Annual Trauma Education requirement
  • Annual Emergency Room Education requirement
  • Monthly Forensic Nurse Meeting attendance


Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Registered Nurse
  • ER/ETC or FNE RN Experience strongly preferred


Licensure, Certifications, & Registration Requirements:
  • Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Maintains current licensure
  • BLS certification through American Heart Association required
  • ACLS & PALS certification through American Heart Association preferred
  • Certification in clinical practice area preferred
  • Membership in Professional Organization encouraged


Other Qualifications:
  • Ability to provide On-Call coverage, for a minimum of 16 hours a month. When on call, have the ability to respond to Jefferson Health - Abington Hospital within one hour. Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EMR), excellent oral and written communication skills, customer satisfaction, problem solving, organizational skills, and knowledge of relevant software and hardware
  • Respond to subpoenas which inlcudes testifying in court


Conditions of Employment

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
