Job Description

Position Description:

This part-time position (three days a week) reports to the Director of the Manhattan Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinic (Manhattan FPECC) in the Division of Correctional Health Services. The Manhattan FPECC, located in the Manhattan Criminal Court Building at 100 Centre Street, is responsible for conducting court-ordered fitness to proceed evaluations under CPL Article 730 and presentencing evaluations under CPL Article 390 for criminal defendants with cases in New York County; preparing written reports in a timely manner for submission to the Courts; and providing courtroom testimony as necessary.

• Excellent diagnostic and evaluation skills with particular attention to issues related to forming opinions about psycholegal questions
• Excellent forensic report writing skills
• Experience working with forensic mental health populations
• Experience in administering and scoring a wide range of psychological tests
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with other disciplines
• Proficiency with word processing programs and spreadsheet programs
• Fluent in written and spoken English

Detailed Tasks:
• Conduct court-ordered evaluations of criminal defendants and submit timely written reports to the Courts
• Conduct psychological testing (intelligence, neuropsychological, personality, malingering, etc.) as needed
• Provide teaching and supervision for clinicians in training
• Participate in regular supervision with the Director of the Manhattan FPECC
• Actively participate in staff meetings, clinic quality improvement projects, and continuing education
• Remain aware of and in compliance with organizational policies and procedures
• From time to time, as needed, conduct CPL 730 and CPL 390 evaluations in the other FPECC clinics (Bronx, Brooklyn/Staten Island, Queens)
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Manhattan FPECC or the city-wide Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Evaluation Court Clinics

Minimum Qualifications

SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level III
For assignment to Assignment Level III, individuals must have the following in addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements for Assignment Level I above:

A. The Doctoral Degree in Psychology as described under Special Note A. for Assignment Level II, and
B. A valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education; and
C. Four years of satisfactory full-time experience in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, or Neuro-Psychology, of which at least one year must have been under the direct supervision of a qualified Psychologist or Psychiatrist, and at least three years must have been in a supervisory capacity as a licensed Psychologist.
D. License Requirements for Assignment Level III

For assignment to Assignment Level III, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
