The Freshmen Admissions Counselor serves as an official representative of Towson University, providing top-notch customer service and relationship-building with prospective undergraduate students. As a member of the Admissions Recruitment Team, the selected individual will value Higher Education and a diverse workplace, aiding in the successful strategic planning, recruitment, and enrollment of qualified students from inside and outside the state of Maryland. Major responsibilities include: attending college fairs, high school visits, and other recruitment activities within an assigned territory; serving as liaison for school counselors within that territory; meeting recruitment goals for enrollment; providing information concerning the University to prospective students and their families; conduct in-person and virtual information sessions; assisting with various marketing activities; application evaluation; data-entry and maintenance; variety of administrative activities as assigned; traveling extensively to high schools, community colleges, and evening recruitment events, as well as evening work and periodic weekend programs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage a recruitment territory; visiting high schools and/or community colleges, attending college fairs, and participating in workshops/panels both in-person and virtually throughout the year. Serve as liaison to develop relationships with high school counselors, alumni, and community-based organizations to enhance the network and brand of TU. Provide recruitment support as needed for office-wide recruitment events & outreach efforts. Utilize data and enrollment trends to develop a recruitment and outreach strategy for their territory and complete a territory report and analysis to assist with recruitment & outreach efforts.
  • Counsel prospective, admitted, and enrolled undergraduate students on admission to TU. Represent TU by providing excellent customer service to all students and families via phone, chat, and email, as well as via in-person and virtual meetings. Understand admissions policies and requirements and serve as a resource to ensure success within the Admissions Recruitment Team. Conduct information presentations both on- and off-campus throughout the year.
  • Evaluate undergraduate student applications for admission and scholarship awards to Towson University through a holistic review process.
  • Complete general admissions duties including, but not limited to, customer service, applicant processing, holistic review, on-campus events, special projects, campus committees, and any other duties as assigned as needed to meet the needs of enrollment and the goals of the university.


Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to present to groups of diverse audiences in various types of venues.
  • Must pay attention to detail, possess strong organizational and analytical skills, and be comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to travel independently and on short notice.
  • The successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic who's both interested in and attentive to cross-cultural communication.

  • The familiarity and effective use of technology is critical to the success of this position and the overall operation of the Office of Admissions.


Preferred:

  • Experience as a college tour guide, orientation leader, admissions student worker, or other student leadership position.


Salary and Benefits

Salary starting at $49,440. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
