Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology in the College of Science & Technology welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2025. Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, scholarly or creative work and department and university service. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. The Technology and Engineering Education position in Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology includes teaching courses focused on the preparation of technology and engineering teachers and one or more of the following technical areas -computer-aided drafting and design ( CADD ), construction, production/manufacturing. Other expectations of the position include the performance of professional responsibilities such as serving on committees and advising students and continuing scholarly growth and professional development activities.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Millersville University Promotion Statement .

Minimum qualifications required to be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate include having an earned doctorate and a minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience (or its equivalent) and scholarship commensurate with this rank.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate OR ABD status toward a doctorate, to be completed by the date of eligibility to apply for reappointment to second year (1/30/26), in such fields as technology and engineering education, industrial technology, technology management, or education related areas such as curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related discipline.
  • Earned baccalaureate in technology and engineering education, industrial technology, applied engineering, engineering technology, or a related area.
  • Expertise in:
    • in technology and engineering education.
    • one or more of the following technical areas: computer-aided drafting and design ( CADD ), construction, production/manufacturing.
  • Willingness and commitment to teach in a laboratory-based, hands-on teaching/learning environment.
  • Commitment to promote a safe and healthy learning and research environment.
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in such fields as technology and engineering education, industrial technology, technology management, or education related areas such as curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a related discipline.
  • Documented effective post-secondary teaching or training experience.
  • Documented K-12 teaching experience in technology and engineering education, technology education, STEM education, or related disciplines.
  • Documented effective professional and / or industrial experience.
  • Experience in supervising, maintaining, and improving laboratory facilities.
  • Commitment to involvement in and support of student organizations.
  • Experience writing grant proposals.
  • Experience conducting and/or supervising research and development or other scholarly activities.
  • Interest in teaching graduate-level courses.


Job Description

EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :

Teaching Assignment
  • The successful candidate will teach a total of 24 contract hours per a two-semester academic year. Typical semester load includes laboratory and/or lecture courses, and supervision of industrial interns or student teachers. Primary teaching responsibilities will be for undergraduate and graduate courses in technology and engineering education, along with hands-on technical courses as required.
  • Develop and implement contemporary and engaging student learning experiences for assigned courses and update course content as needed.
  • Effectively prepare course syllabi, develop lesson plans, and engage in the selection of textbooks and instructional technology related to assigned courses.
  • Foster student learning and development in a safe and healthy environment.
  • Effectively organize, maintain, and manage laboratory facilities.
  • May be required to teach day, evening, and weekend courses.
  • Faculty are expected to be able to teach in a variety of delivery modalities.


Advising and Consultation
  • Serve as academic advisor to undergraduate students.
  • Faculty are expected to hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three days for student advisement.
  • Be available for consultations regarding questions related to your area of expertise.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES :

Supervise interns, practicum students and graduate assistants as well as thesis and dissertations. Other reasonable duties assigned within the faculty member's field of competence. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION :

The Department of Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology ( AEST ), in the College of Science and Technology, is composed of 13 faculty members, one full-time secretary, two full-time laboratory technicians, and over 400 students collectively majoring or minoring in Applied Engineering & Technology Management ( AETM ), Automation & Robotics Engineering Technology ( AURO ), Manufacturing Engineering Technology ( MFET ), Occupational Safety and Environmental Health ( OSEH ) and Technology and Engineering Education ( TECE ).

Osburn Hall, a dedicated facility for the Department, houses its classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories, and offices. This campus center for the study of applied engineering, safety and technology is organized according to technology clusters.

Essential Functions

Working Conditions/Physical Effort :
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/classroom environment.
  • Teach courses face-to-face at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Speak in a clear voice and hear spoken words.
  • Read and write the written word and higher-level statistics/mathematics.
  • Manage classroom activities.
  • Record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
