Job Description
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under direction, provides direct Employee Assistance Program services to MCPS employees, their families, and the organization. Work involves assessment, short-term counseling, referral and follow-up, crisis intervention; psycho-educational workshops; consultation and training to administrative and supervisory staff; development of program awareness activities and establishment of community linkages.
CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Licensed, certified in social work, counseling, or psychology. Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Knowledge of EAP core services; broad clinical/problem assessment skills including alcohol/drug assessment and intervention; familiarity with self-help programs, e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Narcotics Anonymous and related groups. Knowledge of programs and services of the MCPS. Knowledge of community resources and health insurance systems. Understanding of human resources functions, personnel administration and management/labor practices. Ability to relate effectively with management and union personnel at all levels within the organization. Knowledge and understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act and MCPS policies and regulations. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of employee case records and related materials. Ability to plan, organize, and maintain effective management of cases. Excellent crisis intervention skills, consultation, human relations and verbal and written communication skills. Skilled in the use of modern desktop/laptop computer equipment and proficient in MS Office suite or similar office software.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health counseling or related field. Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in employee assistance programs. Specialized training in substance abuse and recovery. Minimum of three years experience in the assessment and treatment of a variety of mental health issues with a diverse population. Experience in crisis intervention counseling and creating and providing supervisory training and employee workshops. Basic computer skills required.
