MedStar Health is looking for a Gastroenterology Technician II t o join our team at Washington Hospital Center! We are looking for a Gastroenterology Technician with knowledge of specialized medical equipment (i.e., EEG, EKG, blood analyzer), data processing equipment (i.e., tape drives, consoles) and/or one year of Gastroenterology Technician training.

As a Gastroenterology Technician II, you will provide technical support to physicians and care for patients during endoscopic procedures and motility studies. Maintain procedure room.

Primary Duties:

  • Assists physicians during/with endoscopic procedures (e.g.: taking biopsies, advancing the scope, applying pressure to the abdomen, and performing electro cautery). Provides advance technical support, ERCP (Esophageal Retrograde Cannulation of Pancreas), and bleeding. Positions/repositions patient for the procedure(s).


  • Performs esophageal motility, acid perfusion, and 24-hour PH studies under the supervision of the head nurse. Prepares room for endoscopic procedures by setting up for each case pertaining to the case needs. Maintains supplies in the room at levels as determined by the head nurse.


  • Troubleshoots minor equipment problems in the Gastroenterology Lab; refers major equipment problems to Biomedical Engineering. Provides support to patient: discusses the upcoming procedure; explains what is transpiring during the procedure; and provides post operative instructions.


  • Prepares and draws up non-controlled medication for the physician to administer. Administers topical anesthetics used in ERCP procedures under the direction of the physician.


  • Assists in the training of the Gastroenterology Technician I's. Provides 24-hour on-call, including weekends, for emergency procedures.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.


  • Specialized and/or advanced clerical, technical or other vocational training acquired during 1-2 years of additional job-related training.


  • 1 to 3 years' experience as a Gastroenterology Technician I or equivalent.
