Position Summary
\n
The General Foreperson provides hands-on leadership and is responsible for scheduling, planning, coordinating, and supervising tree crews. This position is also responsible for controlling costs, ensuring workplace safety, and applying all company employment policies consistently and fairly. The General Foreperson is also responsible for ensuring crew members are provided with proper training and managing the productivity of all direct reports. This position is a first-line manager and key customer interface.

Duties and Responsibilities Include
\n
Essential Duties:
\n

    Safety and Training
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Understands equipment operations, work processes, and safety procedures for employee training
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Identifies needs for employee training and ensures training is completed and up to date
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Maintains adherence to company safety policies, standards, and good practices
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Ensures completion of safety and hazard assessments and establishes work zones and traffic control
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Conducts safety and other informational or educational meetings as required
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Participates in incident investigations and reviews
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Ensures timely responses, actions, and corrections to safety issues
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Planning and Scheduling
    \n

  • \n
    Reads and understands charts, work orders, schedules, customer contracts, drawings, and other records and reports in order to:

    Plan and establish work schedules (including required overtime), assignments and production sequences to meet production goals
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Arrange for notification and permission to complete production work, and
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Evaluate production outputs

  • \n
    Directs production workers with respect to production volume, quality standards, and meeting production schedules and completion dates
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Plan and establish work schedules (including required overtime), assignments, and sequences
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Arranges for notification and permission to complete work
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Recommends additions and releasing of personnel as required to maintain the production schedule

    Supplies, Vehicles, and Equipment

    Inventories and obtains supplies, materials, and equipment in compliance with company policies

    Inspects vehicles, machinery, equipment, and tools

    Communicates needed repairs to the Supervisor and corporate office, as well as coordinates and ensures repairs are completed

    Quality Control

    Oversees execution of work by employees and ensures work meets specifications

    Communicates with serviced customers to ensure customer satisfaction

    Works with Supervisor to evaluate and attend to day-to-day customer errors, complaints, and concerns and ensure appropriate resolution
    \n

    Human Resources and Supervision

  • \n
    Interview and hire employees in compliance with company guidelines and procedures
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Supervises the activities of assigned employees, assesses competency and capabilities, and takes appropriate action to address performance concerns

    Maintains positive employee relations with and between employees
    \n

    Stimulates maximum efficiency and productivity of employees

    Administration
    \n

    Keeps required records of employment matters and production activities and regularly reports to Supervisor on issues, progress or delays, and achievements

    Regularly monitors company telephone and email and communicates/responds to Supervisor and corporate office requests
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Transmits all information and documentation to employees, Supervisor, and corporate office promptly
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Assists the Supervisor in the bidding process
    \n
  • \n
  • \n
    Duties and responsibilities may change with or without notice

Secondary:

  • May be required to report outside of regular working hours for emergency operations
  • \n
  • May be required to perform duties and responsibilities of Supervisor or field staff

What You'll Bring to the Team
\n
    \n
  • Four (4) years of directly related Line Clearance experience, including a minimum of two (2) years experience in a group leader/supervisory role in the arboriculture field
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of established Line Clearance industry hazards, standards, practices, procedures, and techniques (both manual and mechanical electrical line clearance methods, including pruning and climbing skills)
  • \n
  • Previous experience working with IBEW organized labor for Tree Trimmers
  • \n
  • CDL (Class B Minimum) with air brakes or capable of attaining within three (3) months of employment
  • \n
  • Herbicide Applicator's License in NY or NJ
  • \n
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per Company requirements
  • \n
  • Knowledge of essential job functions and responsibilities

Preferred:

  • High School graduate or equivalent

  • Conversational knowledge of the Spanish language
