Scope of Work:

This position performs general railroad maintenance requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in various trades; responsible for assisting in preventive maintenance, inspection, track right of way components.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for assisting in preventive maintenance, inspection, repair of track right of way components.
  • Install rails, ties switches, and other track materials.
  • Diagnose and repair rails, tracks, special track work, direct fixation track work, and/or any other related rail services.
  • Also, must learn about track inspections as per railroad requirements and must be in compliance.
  • Consistently produces quality products and service.
  • Completes all training within required timeline.
  • Performs all work in a safe and secure manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Employees will be required to have a Class A CDL and be able to work all hours as necessary.
  • Prefer individual with an understanding of rail safety, components, operations and inspection as per UFC 4-860-03 and/or 49 CFR parts 213/214.
  • Prefer individual with at least 1-2 years of experience and/or formal vocational/technical training in operating heavy equipment. Each complete year of accredited college education in a related field may be substituted for the equivalent number of years of required experience.
  • Applicant must have the ability to prioritize and multi-task while working in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of track and/or signal maintenance desirable.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and to assist as required in all aspects of the job assisting Railroad Inspector with daily duties.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Highly motivated, flexible organized and must be detail oriented.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors environments. Some work is performed with exposure to low to loud noise level; frequent fieldwork is required with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and the external environment; tasks may require working in tightly enclosed spaces and the use of ladders or other safety equipment to gain access to hard-to-reach locations; some work is performed in underground electrical vaults, and in excavation sites. Some work may require exposure to dust, particulates, unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances and high voltage.
  • Positions requires frequent walking on uneven surfaces; standing extended periods of time; lift/carry and push/pull equipment and other objects weighing up to 75 lbs.; bending, stooping and or kneeling. to communicate with co-workers using a two-way radio; use telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; see in the normal vision range with or without correction to read computer screen, blueprints; hear in the normal range with or without correction.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
