Summary The Media Operations & Strategy General Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Astros and Rockets' jointly-owned Regional Sports Network, SCHN. and working in conjunction with the Board to identify and implement media strategies in support of the Astros and Rockets. This position is based out of the Space City Home Network office, at 1201 San Jacinto St., Houston, TX.

  • Work collaboratively with the Board on areas including long-term strategic planning, opportunities within the national and regional sports media landscape, and enhancing the Astros and Rockets brands across all available forms of media.
  • Serve as the day-to-day leader of SCHN, including budget review and approval, oversight of affiliate relations and sales, and overall management of the network and its personnel.
  • Oversee all aspects of management & accountability of the SCHN P&L.
  • Positively represent SCHN and communicate its vision and direction through active engagement and involvement within the organization and the community.
  • Provide clear and consistent direction while being the point of contact and liaison for all regional efforts with programming partners, the executive team and local staff to ensure that overall business objectives are met and exceeded.
  • Hold individuals and teams accountable by setting clear goals and objectives and ensuring results are achieved through coaching and performance management.
  • Build a highly collaborative work environment ensuring that the organization's assets (time, money and airtime) are spent on the highest priority items.
  • Actively manage the sales department for the region with effective forecasting and pipeline management, strong goals and measures for attainment, management of strong relationships with sponsors and partners while meeting or exceeding targets.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 7+ years of executive leadership experience in the sports media industry
  • Experienced, passionate leader who can spot, attract and grow talent and ensure an effective succession pipeline within the organization.
  • Passionate knowledge of regional sports teams as well as major sports leagues (NBA, MLB)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative work environment with multi-disciplinary teams.


Work Environment Position will work in an office and stadium environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Must be able to work in all types of outdoor weather conditions and within a stadium environment.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel Moderate travel may be expected for this position.
