Provides genetic counseling support for various genetics clinics. Provides genetic information to referring physicians and other healthcare professionals and coordinates genetic testing and results. Conducts patient evaluations, pedigree construction and interpretation and counseling. Supports genetic training activities for technical staff, graduate students, residents and other short and long term trainees.
Lead Genetic Counselor will direct a service area within the Department of Genetics and leads the GC team within this service area. Lead GC will work alongside the Genetic Counseling Supervisor to provide assistance and mentorship to GC1-3s within the service area. Additional responsibilities involve coordination and communication with key parties and leaders within the service area, attending meetings for the service area, and working with laboratory representatives. Clinical responsibilities are reduced to accommodate these additional responsibilities and to allow appropriate time for them.

Position Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Leadership experience is not required. Must have clinical experience in the service area covered.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR REGISTRATION:
Currently certified or eligible for certification as a Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) required.
Currently licensed or eligible for full license by the Alabama Board of Genetic Counseling.
