The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) IT Executive Program, is recruiting to fill a Geographic Information System (GIS) Supervisor vacancy. This position would be stationed at our DNR Headquarters Madison, WI office. Telework is available for up to 60% of the week.

Position Summary

This position serves as the supervisor for the GIS Data, Analysis and Integration Section in the DNR IT Executive Program, leading GIS data development and other GIS service delivery to DNR programs.

The GIS Supervisor position requires a strong knowledge base and experience in GIS data development, GIS application development and geospatial analyses. In addition to supervising team staff, this position will work closely with DNR division staff and management to define work tasks, manage requirements and communicate about ongoing work. The position assures that GIS work meets department and enterprise standards and provides leadership for GIS data and technical innovation, best practice development and knowledge transfer.

As an agency DNR IT Supervisor, this position is responsible for preparing and managing initiatives through the entire project lifecycle, managing and developing their team members, and coordinating with DNR IT Supervisor colleagues and leadership on planning and integration of technical projects and initiatives.

Salary Information

The classification title for this position is IS Supervisor 2 . The starting salary is between $40.00 and $51.92 per hour ($83,200 and $108,000 annually), depending on qualification s. The pay schedule/range is 70-02.

Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position includes an excellent benefits package, including health care, vacation, sick leave, and retirement benefits. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Please make sure to describe the following qualifications within your resume and/or letter of qualifications.

Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience creating GIS data following technical standards and performing data collection, processing, database management, and quality control.
  • Experience leading GIS application development through all project phases including discovery, planning, development, testing and implementation.
  • Experience developing GIS work plans, goals, best practices, and procedures used by other team members or GIS professionals.

Well-qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience working in a supervisory role (e.g., hiring, disciplining, dismissal/promotion of employees, evaluating performance, maintaining productivity, supporting training and development, etc.)
  • Experience performing spatial and non-spatial analyses. (e.g., identifying/clarifying questions and objectives with stakeholders, identifying relevant datasets, analyzing design, cleaning/reformatting data, etc.)
  • Professional experience working with natural resources applications of GIS.
