About this role

The Global Category Manager, Energy is responsible for the strategic management and optimization of Newmont's energy procurement processes and contracts. This role requires a deep understanding of energy markets, procurement strategies, and supplier management to ensure the company achieves cost-effective and reliable energy solutions, while supporting Newmont's decarbonization objectives. Provide sourcing, procurement, delivery, and management of goods, materials, and services for Energy within the global category management team, directing, guiding, and training the regional category management and regional supply chain operations, including providing direct support for the development and compliance of global and regional on-contract spend and preferred sources within all procurement activities. Manage sourcing projects, contracts, procurement plans and supply chain reviews to deliver and manage supply agreements for Energy as part of the center-led Global Category Management team. Support and administer commercial and contracts integration in the SAP and SAP Ariba system with key suppliers and key stakeholders within the projects, operations, and maintenance groups. Manage the rationalization and segmentation of Newmont Global Category Spend in support of the development, implementation and execution of sourcing and portfolio management strategies, policies, and guidelines to maximize TCO cost savings within any related Supply Chain standard and related category landscape.

Your role will consist of

Category Management - Energy
• Apply deep understanding of energy markets, procurement strategies, and supplier management to ensure the company achieves cost-effective and reliable energy solutions, while supporting Newmont's decarbonization objectives
• Develop and implement category and sourcing strategies across Newmont's portfolio to support global objectives and operational business planning commitments and to maximize cost reduction opportunities as well as key operational objectives; working closely with the Energy Category team and other internal stakeholders and manage relationships with energy suppliers.
• Implement category and sourcing strategies, negotiating, and facilitating favorable commercial agreements to optimize outcomes.
• Manage related global supplier relationships and related services sourcing plan.
• Develop capability for end users regarding the Request-to-Pay Standard and Category Management framework.
• Apply and manage the utilization of Request-to-Pay Standard and Category Management framework utilizing standardized enterprise systems, tools and templates, rigorous document control, knowledge management and a comprehensive matrix of formal engagement, alignment, and governance with various stakeholders to ensure compliance at all process levels.
• Develop and execute a Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program for their respective category and supplier relationships to drive performance and continuous improvement.
• In conjunction with the Regional Directors and Site Supply Chain leads, commercial and with the support of Technical Services and other stakeholder functions, ensure strong working relationships with suppliers for the Energy category is developed and maintained, and provide direction to monitor and continually improve this suppliers' and category performance. Review key agreements and contracts to protect and advance Newmont's interests.
• Lead day-to-day execution of identifying and capturing new savings opportunities and spending areas where Supply Chain can add value and drive cost savings; aggressively track and improve non-compliance of Standards or off-contract processing and reason codes for off-contract transactions.
• Work closely with other departments such as Operations, Projects and Sustainability to understand energy needs and provide implement energy and emissions reduction projects and initiatives.
• Implement measures to reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency in mining operations through optimizing equipment, processes, and systems to use less energy while maintaining productivity.
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of energy markets, technologies and policies to support the category strategies and other activities.
• Lead and support development and management of energy contracts, leveraging technical and commercial expertise to meet the energy strategy of Newmont's operations.

Sourcing and Procurement Execution
• Design and lead competitive bidding processes, negotiate contracts and manage supplier selection to ensure the best value and performance.
• Manage existing energy contracts, including contract renewals, amendments, and performance evaluations.
• Proactively manage and approach the selection and management of suppliers across safety, sustainability, and social performance objectives.
• Execute contract management and supplier relationship management including but not limited to, supplier created value and innovation programs, as well as tracking and improving supplier performance.
• Optimize efforts and processes associated with procuring, delivering, and managing materials, goods, and services.
• Manage local sourcing and procurement strategy for the Energy category to achieve the successful execution of budget plans, economic development goals, and investment via the procurement lifecycle.
• Implement and support continuous and business improvement opportunities, and execute Newmont's procurement strategy, policies, and guidelines to drive share goals and objectives across the regional supply chain operations to realize best pricing and appropriate risk management of related scopes of work around Newmont operations.
• Enhance Newmont's day-to-day procurement capability through continuous development, training and knowledge sharing of Request-to-Pay Standard and Category Management frameworks across sites and functions.
• Accountable for the execution of the Request-to-Pay Standard and Category Management framework across the sourcing and procurement function.
• Accountable for awareness and adherence to Global Strategic Partnership and existing preferred supplier global contracts and relationships as it relates to each region and site to ensure sourcing and procurement activities are on-contract and within global category management preferred agreements, processes, and systems.
• Accountable for awareness and adherence to Union Agreements that may impact Energy category as they relate to sourcing and procurement activities.
• Meet maintenance, availability and reliability of equipment, parts, and services based on Newmont guidance targets and the success of producing gold, copper, and additional metals.
• Support and administer Total Cost Ownership (TCO) initiatives, pricing and cost management initiatives / mechanisms are an essential focus to contribute to minimizing Newmont All in Sustaining Cost (AISC).
• Ensure Supply Chain resilience through continuous access to necessary energy sources, such as fuel and electricity, to avoid disruptions in mining operations.
• Ensure diversification of energy sources to mitigate risks associated with reliance on a single energy source.
• Integrate ESAs and PPAs into the overall energy strategy allowing Newmont to achieve greater operational flexibility in energy sourcing and align energy procurement with both operational and sustainability goals.
• Deliver renewable energy power purchase agreements for Newmont's global operations.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

Experience:

Minimum +7-years of procurement, contracts, and strategic sourcing experience, with progressive responsibilities throughout your career commensurate with the scope and size of this role. Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy procurement, category management, or a related field.
Substantial knowledge and experience executing a range of procurement management activities including but not limited to category management, supply chain
Experience with renewable energy procurement and sustainability initiatives.
Familiarity with energy regulations and compliance requirements.
Essential to have 5+ years of prior experience with Energy Category Management segments, such as Energy Security, efficiency and storage, ESAs and PPAs, and Fuels, Electricity, Renewable Energy, Decarbonization, Sustainability and ESG, and other categories and knowledge of these same markets, suppliers, and products.
Proven experience in evaluating and negotiating complex energy contracts, including ESAs and PPAs and virtual PPAs, and managing relationships with energy suppliers and service providers.
Exposure to global energy markets and experience working in diverse geographical regions, particularly in remote or developing areas where mining operations often take place.
Strong regional, country, or site cultural and supply chain requirements with ability to support and share experiences with many stakeholders' inputs into requirements for sourcing, contracting, and procurement.

Skills and Abilities:

Strong analytical and negotiation skills with the ability to interpret complex data and market trends.
Ability to analyze energy consumption data, forecast energy needs, assess market trends, and make data-driven decisions. Proficiency in using energy management software and tools for data analysis.
Expertise in identifying and mitigating risks related to energy supply, price volatility, and regulatory changes and developing effective solutions to improve energy management.
Effective communication and influence of stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to contribute to a high-performance culture by developing and collaborating within the Procurement team, across assets, and other key stakeholders.
Multi- Language (e.g., Spanish, French, or Dutch) skills strongly desired.
Organized self-starter and autonomous (team may be spread across regions and time zones).
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication and presentation (in person and on applications like MS Teams).
Advanced data analysis and reporting skills.
Negotiation skills and confidence to negotiate at all levels including C-Level/Executives.
Strong skills in negotiating energy contracts, including Energy Supply Agreements (ESAs) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), with a focus on securing favorable terms and managing risks.

Working conditions and location

The preferred location for this position is the Denver corporate headquarters, however qualified candidates in proximity to our Vancouver hub or any of our regional offices or sites in the Americas are also encouraged to apply.

Collaboration and interaction are expected with the Regional Category Management teams and across the regional supply chain organizations as well as across other service and operational areas of Newmont across multiple time zones.
Position will be required to travel regularly to domestic and international sites

The salary range offered for this role is USD $120,480 - 143,070. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
