Job Description

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

NYC Health+ Hospitals, the nation's largest municipal health care system, seeks a Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator to work within the Office of External and Regulatory Affairs. This is a new position to support the various elements of our portfolio: community affairs, government relations, regulatory affairs, and philanthropy. The Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator will be under the primary supervision of the Senior Director of Government and Community Affairs, but will also manage and execute projects for other leaders within our team, including the Senior Vice President of External and Regulatory Affairs. The Government Affairs and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of tasks to develop and sustain the team's relationships with government partners. The Coordinator will also be responsible for identifying and managing longer-term opportunities to advance NYC Health and Hospital's city, state, and federal priorities. This position will provide opportunities for growth within the Office of External and Regulatory Affairs.

General tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Work in partnership with the Government Affairs team and other staff to advance the System's legislative objectives and priority issues
  • Monitor, track, research, and report on legislative and regulatory issues and actions for city, state and federal government affairs initiatives
  • Prepare materials for hearings on the city and state level, and support subject matter experts in preparing to testify and answer questions
  • Manage elected outreach for press release quotes and event invitations
  • Manage correspondence with elected officials and staff members on the city, state and federal level
  • Run reports, update spreadsheets, and conduct written and visual data analysis, including the System's market share breakdown by districts
  • Support H+H facilities in applying for state and federal grants
  • Coordinate the Mayor's Managerial Report (MMR) reporting across the System
  • Support special projects with other teams, including the Office of Behavioral Health and Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine, among others
  • Research relevant opportunities to comment on state and federal rules
  • Review and draft regulatory comments and submit feedback for state and federal issues
  • Assist in meeting management including developing and preparing materials, sending invitations, coordinating logistics, recording meeting minutes, and other associated tasks


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling; and
2. Two (2) years of full-time experience in medically-oriented health care and medical support systems environment, one (1) year of which included experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in such occupations as physical, occupational, inhalation, speech and audiology therapy or as Medical/Laboratory Technologist, Microbiologist (various specialties), Chemist (biochemist), Radiation and X-Ray Technician; or two (2) years of responsible level experience in business management systems or general administration including one (1) year in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
3. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines listed in "1" above; and
4. Three (3) years of full-time experience, as described in "2" above, including two (2) years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity in occupations, as listed in "2" above; or
5. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Note: Certification or licensure may be required.

Department Preferences

  • Computer Programs/Software Operated: MS Office Suite required. Graphic design software.
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Experience in advocacy, community organizing, or strategic outreach
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal & written communications skills
  • Ability to use critical thinking and sound judgement to identify and solve problems
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks at a time and maintain a strong attention to detail
  • Ability/willingness to attend evening and weekend meetings and events
