Job Description

The Government Grants & Contracts Director will be responsible for soliciting and overseeing local, state, and federal government grant and contract funding for the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. This position manages and oversees government grant and contract activities and writes proposals and reports in furtherance of the department's deliverables. Activities include conducting research, data collection, writing grant proposals and supporting material, and completing compliant reports for funders along with all aspects of compliance and financial planning related to government grants administration, and ensuring proper stewardship of all government grants received by the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. This position works closely with and coordinates communication with the Accounting, Mission Advancement, and Social Impact Departments to develop and monitor yearly revenue projections that align with the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles strategic vision and annual revenue goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as public policy, nonprofit management, public administration, business administration or other related field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in fund development, government grants/contract management, and reporting to funders
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Knowledge of grant funding sources and trends in the nonprofit sector
  • Familiarity with grant management software and tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organization

Essential Functions

GRANTS DEVELOPMENT
  • Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare and submit grant proposals to government entities.
  • Oversee financial and legal components of grant applications, including the development of budgets for grant submission.
  • Identify and conduct research on prospective funding opportunities at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Work with the Chief Mission Advancement Officer and individual Branch Executives to develop annual strategies and projections to fulfill funding needs.

GRANTS ADMINISTRATION & COMPLIANCE
  • Review all grant agreements and contracts, documenting and communicating all deliverables, deadlines, and responsibilities to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop a comprehensive compliance plan for all grants and contracts.
  • Ensure funds are spent in compliance with established administrative and financial policies and program guidelines for federal and non-federal grants.
  • Monitor activities, deliverables, and expenditures to ensure the organization is in compliance with new and existing grants/contracts; recommend appropriate action to enforce compliance where necessary.
  • Ensure grant deliverables and deadlines are met in compliance with grant agreements, preparing narrative and financial reports for granting agencies within prescribed timelines.
  • Provide technical oversight regarding grant applications, grant modifications, progress reports, and budgets.
  • Lead regular grant project status meetings with internal stakeholders to ensure grant deliverables are on track and deadlines are met.
  • Serve as primary liaison between Mission Advancement and Accounting to perform timely reconciliations of grant funds received.
  • Complete regular monitoring of net asset schedule for restricted funds for all entities.
  • Compile and manage excellent historical and prospective data to effectively prioritize work; utilize available software for grant tracking.
  • Work with program and finance staff in tracking monthly expenditures related to grants/contracts; ensure expenditures are allowable and within grant/contract guidelines.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct and attend meetings to provide information, enlist support, resolve issues, and plan/coordinate activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential matters and information.
  • Meet in person with funders, team members, and other partners, as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.

  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
