The Minnesota State University intercollegiate athletics program has two Athletic Communications Graduate Assistantship positions available beginning on or around August 14, 2023. Minnesota State is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and belongs to the 15-school Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 18 sports (NCAA Division II). In addition, the men's and women's ice hockey programs participate in NCAA Division I and compete in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (men) and Western Collegiate Hockey Association (women), respectively.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: execution of the athletic communications coverage plan as set forth by the Director of Athletics, Senior Associate Director of External Operations and Assistant Director of Athletics/Director of Athletic Communications; promotion of Minnesota State student-athletes, coaches and teams through a variety of means, including but not limited to the department website (msumavericks.com), press releases, weekly game notes, media guides, local, regional and national media outlets, social media and other media platforms; serve as communications lead for one fall, one winter and one spring sport; assist with other athletic events when needed; facilitate graphic design creation; implement social media strategies. As a part of your responsibilities, the Athletic Marketing graduate assistant will follow the regulations and guidelines of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), Minnesota State Athletics and the University. Failure to do so may result in suspension without pay or termination of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sport Management, Recreation Management or Communications with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sport Management, Recreation Management or Communications with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better
- Admission into a Minnesota State University, Mankato Graduate School program
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) a s well as
graphic design capabilities - Knowledge of Statcrew and NCAA Genius Scoring Systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in sports communications or public relations
- Strong desire to pursue a career in intercollegiate or professional athletic communications or public relations
- Group ticket and other sales experience
- Ability to convey communications plans and strategies to MSU Athletics coaches, student-athletes, administrators
and other staff members
General Information
This position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Must be enrolled for a minimum of six graduate credits per semester.
- This position is for two (2) 10-month appointments, with a start date of Mid-August 2024 - Mid-May 2025 and
Mid-August 2025 - Mid-May, 2024. - Position may be terminated at any point and may also be renewed for a second year or through the completion of
a graduate degree program based on mutual agreement, the successful execution of the responsibilities outlined above and the attainment of performance goals.
