The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology degrees. The college also offers combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, and B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.

CSE students work with distinguished faculty and scientists, use cutting edge technology, and conduct impactful research. Faculty-directed research projects empower CSE students to apply what they learn inside the classroom and laboratory to real-world situations and prepares them for a variety of careers or advanced study.

The Graduate Programs and Student Success Specialist at the University of North Carolina Wilmington has a multifaceted role focused on enhancing undergraduate and graduate student success. This position plays a crucial role in supporting students and ensuring the smooth operation of graduate programs within the College of Science and Engineering.

Research and Reporting:
  • Answer research questions on enrollment, engagement, and retention
  • Organize and report research results in various formats (narrative, tabular, graphical, oral)
  • Design data and report layouts according to office standards
  • Interpret findings and recommend interventions to improve student success metrics




Program and Curriculum Support:
  • Facilitate new program and curricular requests
  • Attend CSE Curriculum Committee meetings and manage agendas
  • Support faculty with reviewing Curriculog submissions
  • Partner on graduate program requests
  • Coordinate facilities and events within the College of Science and Engineering
  • Provide programmatic and curriculum support for the CSE Academic Resource Center


Administrative Activities:
  • Oversee administrative tasks for all graduate programs within the CSE
  • Prepare reports for the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Curriculum
  • Recruit students for select graduate programs
  • Coordinate application reviews and admissions processes
  • Advise students on pre-admission, courses, graduation requirements, and career counseling
  • Organize orientation and graduation events
  • Ensure catalog materials are updated
  • Prepare and disseminate assessment instruments like alumni and senior surveys


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
  • 3 years of related experience, preferably in Higher Education
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office 365 and DocuSign
  • Strong verbal communication skills, and record management
  • Extensive training in Student Banner
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with excel spreadsheets
  • Familiarity with policies within higher education, SeaNet and University system student audits
  • Strong coordination skills
  • Strong attention to detail with accuracy in record keeping
