Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Graduate Student Assistant (GSA) works on campus in an academic support role for the University. These roles can range from overseeing students, grading academic assignments, scheduling, sending emails, lecturing, etc. The GSA works a maximum of 20 hours per week (10m - 720 / 12m - 1040) throughout their contracted time length.

Essential Functions and Primary Responsibilities:
  • Work under the direction and supervision of the GSA Supervisor.
  • Participate in departmental events and activities as deemed appropriate and necessary by the GSA Supervisor.
  • Participate in LU Graduate School events and activities, as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Directo of Graduate Assistantships & Research Grans.
  • Attend all orientations and training sessions per the direction of the department and the LU Graduate School
  • Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment.
  • Assist students, faculty and the GSA Supervisor with conducting research and assume an integral role on multiple research projects within the Human Performance and the Human Movement Analysis labs.
  • Facilitate and/or assist in data collection activities and literature reviews for Graduate Human Performance research projects and/or theses as well as faculty research.
  • Assist with training of other Dept. of Allied Health Professions graduate and undergraduate students as well as interested faculty members wanting to use the facilities and equipment.
  • Assist in lab courses and with other duties as assigned.
  • Potentially serve as student laboratory assistants in courses taught by graduate and undergraduate exercise science faculty: 1) EXSC-351 (Biomechanics Lab), 2) EXSC-411 (Applied Exercise Physiology Lab), 3) EXSC-511 (Advanced Exercise Physiology Lab), and/or 4) EXSC-551 (Advanced Biomechanical Analysis Lab).
  • Other research, student recruitment, and laboratory oriented human performance related duties as assigned by the Director of the MS in Human Performance Degree (current GSA Supervisor) and/or the Human Performance Laboratory Director or the Human Movement Analysis Lab Director
  • Uphold and follow the Community Standards and respected Honor Code (provided by the Office of Community Life), as well as the Graduate Assistantship Handbook.

Qualifications and Credentials
  • Admitted to MS Human Performance program
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to attain an understanding of all technical systems that support the role of being a GSA
  • ACSM or NSCA certification desirable
  • Must live in the local area to report to work on campus


Workload: The position requires 19-20 hours per week
