Position Summary:The Grounds and Facility Technician is responsible for the maintenance and stewardship of 176 acres of land, including environmentally sensitive areas, as well as the upkeep of all buildings, machines, surfaces, and services within them in coordination with the Facilities Manager and Executive Leader of Infrastructure. This role requires hands-on work across various maintenance disciplines, including landscaping, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and pool operations. The Technician must be comfortable with heavy machinery, ladders, and power tools and be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. A strong commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for all who use the property is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Land Maintenance:
    • Perform regular maintenance of 176 acres, ensuring care for environmentally sensitive areas.
    • Operate landscaping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws, for grounds upkeep.
    • Implement sustainable practices to manage the health and appearance of the landscape.
  • Building and Facility Maintenance:
    • Support the maintenance and repair of all buildings on the property, including mechanical systems, surfaces, and fixtures.
    • Perform routine inspections and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
    • Assist with carpentry work, such as building and repairing structures, as needed.
  • Pool Operations:
    • Assist with the maintenance and operation of the facility's pool, including water treatment and safety checks.
    • Ensure the pool area is clean, safe, and compliant with health regulations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to State and Federal regulations as well as Appel Farm Operations best practices.
    • Adhere to safety standards for machinery operation and chemical application.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, inspections, and repairs.
  • Awareness and Respect:
    • Demonstrate awareness and respect for lessees of the spaces, ensuring that work does not disrupt their activities or violate their privacy.
    • Be comfortable working around children in a safe and respectful manner.
  • Equipment Operation:
    • Operate and maintain heavy machinery, such as tractors, backhoes, and other equipment used for grounds and facility maintenance.
    • Use ladders, scaffolding, and other tools safely to complete tasks at various heights.
  • Technology and Communication:
    • Utilize project management software and other technology tools to communicate effectively with the operations team and manage tasks.
    • Engage in ongoing learning opportunities to enhance skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and other maintenance disciplines.
    • Stay updated on best practices for maintaining environmentally sensitive areas.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, facility maintenance, or a related role is preferred.
  • Basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and landscaping; willingness to learn and develop these skills is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Comfort with project management software and technology for communication.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Work Schedule:
  • This position is full-time (40 hours per week), with some flexibility required for weekends or evenings depending on operational needs.
