How We Work

- Leads and manages a complex set of functions across the Office of the General Counsel ("OGC"), a global division, focused on supporting the success of divisional operations and the development of new and existing crew.
- The role is responsible for: 1) managing the budgeting and business planning needs of the OGC; 2) leading and prioritizing the technology portfolio needs of the division; 3) establishing the division's policies and procedures around outside vendor engagements, including outside counsel; and 4) leading the divisional operational functions, including communications, logistics, and operational excellence programs.
- Manages staff to create a strong team atmosphere and crew engagement climate. Provides guidance, training, and motivation as necessary to develop staff. Hires, evaluates and counsels crew. Follows corporate disciplinary procedures per established Vanguard standards as required. Sets performance standards, reviews performance, provides feedback, and recommends wage increases in accordance with all applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Drives enterprise initiatives and creates and maintains a multi-year program strategy that clearly identifies specific actions and tasks needed to achieve future state goals. Drives communication to many different audiences within Vanguard. Ensures all steps are taken to mitigate risk and maintains control, compliance, audit, and legal requirements.
- Builds and maintains strategic relationships across sites, departments, divisions, and internal and external partners to support their initiatives.
- Understands the financial dynamics of the Vanguard and OGC business and proactively manages business unit expenses accordingly.
- Employs strategic thinking and coordinates annual business planning and long-term planning for the division with senior leadership, including creating and refreshing OKRs throughout the year.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree required. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of eight years of relevant experience and five years of management experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent judgment and ability to analyze and respond to issues.
- Broad knowledge of the financial service industry.
- Strong relationship skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
