We are looking for a Head of Mito National Field Team who is passionate,emotionally intelligent, self-aware, and controlled with the ability to excel at multiple objectives simultaneously to join us in our UCB's Rare Disease Organization Team. They will focus on our ultra-rare mitochondrial disease asset for Thymidine Kinase 2 Deficiency, awaiting FDA submission and approval. This role is a field position with up to 70% travel and can reside anywhere in the US.

About the role

You will play a crucial role in leading a team that will help healthcare providers navigate the complex patient journey of TK2d patients, from diagnosis and treatment through ongoing care and management.

You're responsible for ensuring the execution of the brand's strategic direction and will provide coaching and resources to a field team that will be delivering disease state, product, and resource education to healthcare providers and their support staff to expand their identification and treatment of appropriate patients. Key areas of focus for this team will be strategic account management, disease education, product education and patient access and reimbursement. Accountable for the implementation of all marketing initiatives, including contributing to brand equity development, annual brand planning, the 10-year plan and forecast and orchestrate activities within defined area to insure delivery of patient commitment

What you'll do
  • Build and develop a high-performing national field team of about 5-8 regional leads
  • Build, coach, motivate and inspire a field team, conduct regular field coaching days and KPI assessments to ensure proper program implementation supporting team in disease education/patient diagnosis, education and access and reimbursement
  • Ensure that each region is working to a strategy based on key insights into the unique characteristics of the market, designed to maximize patient value creation and advance brand objectives
  • Lead the development of our Patient Value Strategy (PVS) culture with the patient as the "True North" by embedding PVS principles into the Rare Disease team to establish a sustainable competitive advantage
  • Skilled in the ultra-rare customer/market, a creative problem solver who strategically leverages data sources/resources to support the team in patient diagnosis initiatives
  • Partner and shape the Rare Disease Ecosystem: Demonstrate a deep understanding and awareness of the local ecosystem that shapes the patient experience. Maintain a current understanding of local market/ecosystems, business models, and key influencers. Routinely sharing such information with relevant UCB stakeholders, i.e. Commercial Leaders.
  • Be an expert in the Medical, Scientific & Therapeutic Areas: Acquire scientific and medical knowledge around rare diseases to ensure being scientifically sound, as well as ability to acquire and/or deepen knowledge about new therapeutic areas and indications. Understand the operational impact and apply new expertise in the context
  • Manage & execute the field team's expense budget, performance appraisals, and salary plans, monthly monitoring and reporting on performance versus objectives across all regions
  • Provide regional dossiers documenting business, political, cultural, and professional issues relating to healthcare delivery, updated as necessary to reflect new insights or events to leadership

I nterested? For this role we're looking for the following education, experience and skills
  • Bachelor's degree in life science, business or healthcare required
  • 15+ years of Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical commercial experience, including 2+ years with academic centers and hospital systems
  • Experience in Rare Diseases, Neurology, Clinical Genetics, Metabolic Disease, or other indications requiring similar skills, medical knowledge, a high level of interaction and support, complex treatment regimens, access, and adherence challenges
  • Proficiency in reimbursement, account management, or KOL development, with at least 5+ years of experience in any combination of these areas.
  • Ability to gain consistent access & develop strong, professional relationships for scientific exchange and promotion with healthcare providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully seek out and qualify leads, as well as profile new accounts.
  • Ability to travel extensively up to 70% throughout the assigned territory, overnights will be required.

Preferred Experience/Skills:
  • Experience in building disease awareness and launching first-in-class therapies, including rare disease products.
  • Proficient in leveraging multiple data sources for customer engagement to drive patient value, utilizing digital business tools to develop actional strategies and ensure successful product launches.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to communicate complex issues simply to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risk.


This position's reasonably anticipated base salary range is $207,500 - $272,400 annually. The salary offered will consider internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
