PHD supports the health of New Mexicans by preventing and controlling the spread of diseases, promoting healthy behaviors, monitoring health trends, and providing access to healthcare services for communities in the NW Region.

Why does the job exist?

Build capacity with Health Councils and other internal and external partners to help address community identified public health goals and objectives through priorities identified; to enhance overall community health improvement through collaboration and community organizing.

How does it get done?

Mobilize community partnerships to identify and address health issues, inform educate and empower people about health issues; help develop informed policies and plans which support community; work with Torrance County Health Council to maintain their health improvement process which includes broad-based participation guided by their health assessment.

Who are the customers?

Both internal and external partners to include government and tribal entities, schools and other groups to ensure a comprehensive approach to improving population-based outcomes.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in community engagement and planning; working with diverse populations, knowledge of data, community health assessment and profiles, respectful communication skills.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act) trainings is required within sixty (60) days of employment. Position will require Blood-borne pathogen training within thirty (30) days as condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Office setting, exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25lbs). Some services are provided in a clinic with diverse racial and ethnic population, in auxiliary and community sites. Potential exposure to communicable diseases. Travel to provide outreach and coverage to include overnight travel to attend training sessions and meeting is required.
