Unit Coordinator Position Summary:
The Coordinator participates in patient centered care across the continuum and performs clerical functions that support unit operations and assumes the reception role for the unit. The Health Unit Coordinator's (HUC) purpose is to contribute to the effective communication of care needs for patients and families. This position contributes to the goals of the department by providing an opportunity for the Health Unit Coordinator to collaborate with all members of the care team and be accountable for the delivery of patient care at a demonstrated level of safe practice and as defined by JHACH policy.
Unit Coordinator Key Accountabilities:

Unit Coordinator Qualifications:
Salary Range: Minimum 15.00 per hour - Maximum 23.18 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.

Unit Coordinator Key Accountabilities:
- Assists patients by responding to requests from patients, visitors and other team members; obtaining needed services from team members and other hospital personnel to meet patient care needs; supports and participates in service excellence initiatives.
- Creates a welcoming environment by greeting patients, families and visitors, in person or on the telephone, answering inquiries, relaying calls to patients, giving directions, and referring inquiries to nursing or other staff as appropriate
- Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential
- Maintains unit supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies; tracks unit equipment.
- Greets patients, families, visitors, and members of the health care team in a friendly courteous manner.
- Demonstrate ability to define medical terminology.
- Enters nursing procedure charges and updates administrative data screens as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the admission, transfer, and discharge process of patients.
- Identifiles and implements new practices and processes which positively impact the workflow of the unit.
- Performs other patient care related activities as determined by the RN Clincal Nurse or the RN Clinical Team Leader/Supervisor.

Unit Coordinator Qualifications:
- A minimum of a High School diploma, GED, Certificate of Completion or equivalent achievement.
- 1 year previous health unit coordinator or related experience required.
- Ability to work independently, prioritizes, and has exceptional organizational skills.
- Demonstrates basic computer skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with patients, families, physicians, ancillary and support staff.
- Ability to effectively manage within an environment of emotional and physical stress.
- Must be able to employ a variety of communications equipment, including multi-line telephone system, facsimile equipment, computers, etc.
