Are you a self-directed, motivated individual with experience with heavy mobile equipment? If so, our Savannah, GA Gypsum facility is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing inspections, services, and repairs on all forms of heavy equipment, machinery, and job site vehicles. Candidates must be able to manage a changing workload driven by quarry production needs.

Compensation: $30/hour and up depending on experience

What You Will Do

  • Troubleshooting major and minor repairs and maintenance on all rolling stock to include dismantling, overhauling, and assembling rolling stock equipment and machinery.
  • Performing maintenance responsibilities such as blowing off rolling stock with compressed air and/or pressure washing, complete lube changes, oil changes, filter services, and brake adjustments.
  • Identifying and listing parts to make needed repairs of mobile equipment.
  • Installing and aligning equipment parts.
  • Checking vehicle fluids, tires, air filters, and engine coolant and make general repairs when necessary.
  • Maintaining clean and orderly housekeeping standards in the mobile shop and maintenance work areas.
  • Effectively communicating work performed and equipment statuses both written and verbally.
  • Adhering to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures and actively participating in the safety program.
  • Working in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
  • Performing tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to 12 (twelve) hours a day.


Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • One year or more of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or combination of experience technical training/degree
  • Experience diagnosing and rebuilding power train components including internal combustion engines, transmissions, and final drive components
  • Experience with precision alignment of motors, couplings, bearings, pumps and lubrication.


What Will Put You Ahead

  • Five (5) years or more of experience as a Mobile/ Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Associate degree or two (2) years of study from a technical college or school in the fields of Industrial Maintenance or Industrial Technology.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other PC-based production reporting systems applications.
  • Hyster certification or equivalent
