Job Summary: The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment required for work projects including front-end loaders, backhoes and bulldozers. Performs equipment inspections and preventative/routine maintenance. Performs minor equipment repairs and adjustments. Makes estimates from prints, sketches, or site inspections. Drives from site-to-site. Supervises and trains entry level personnel.
Additional Department Summary: Will require driving dump truck or other heavy duty vehicles.
Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of heavy equipment operation and minor repair and maintenance experience to include backhoe operation.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ability to meet regular attendance requirements and work overtime, sometimes on short notice. Will require long days, on your feet, standing, walking, lifting, carrying and may have to get out of equipment to assist loading of machine/trucks. Over 8-hour days may be required based on the condition of the grounds and campus event schedules. Will require work during all climates of weather, hot, cold, rain, etc., depending on season. Must accomplish the essential functions in a timely manner. Closely observes and adheres to all safety rules and regulations as listed on product and equipment labels and as directed by management. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Must have a CDL with 2 years experience preferred. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
