This position is an Non-Exempt position at pay grade 108.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for assisting with specialized mechanized cleaning of the Gulf Beach, Island Parks, and Island facilities managed by the City of Corpus Christi. Their primary functions include seaweed removal, beach road maintenance, sanitation management of beaches, emptying trash cans, and assisting in leading seasonal employees.

Responsibilities

• Move sand, maintain shoreline on Gulf Beach, participate in the removal of seasonal accumulation of seaweed with the use of motor grader, front end loader, dumb truck and/or tractors, and maintain drivable lanes for vehicular traffic

• Follow applicable Federal, State, and local beach maintenance practices

• Remove all trash from gulf beaches including emptying trash cans, picking up ground trash, and cleaning litter off the access roads and areas

• Assist in leading seasonal temporary sanitation crews with picking up the increased amounts of trash during the busier Spring and Summer months

• Assist in following preventive maintenance on all equipment and vehicles including washing and greasing all heavy equipment after use on the beach and washing the outside and underside of vehicles to remove sand and salt

• Ensure complete and accurate records are kept in accordance with USACE beach maintenance permit and grant requirements

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Requires a High School Diploma/GED

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience

• CPR/First Aid/AED required within six (6) months of hire

• A valid Class B driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
