Job Summary

Under general supervision of the HIM Operations Manager and Data Integrity Coordinator, following established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, the HIM Data Integrity Specialist manages, maintains, and restores the integrity of the Master Patient Index and the electronic health record. All job duties and responsibilities are performed to support the entire health system unless otherwise specified. The HIM Data Integrity Specialist is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Job Responsibilities

• Reviews electronic medical records for potential duplicates and merges or marks as non-duplicates as necessary.
• Reviews electronic medical records for potential record overlays, completes initial corrections for identified overlays, and reports identified overlays to HIM System Specialists.
• Reviews electronic medical records for scanned document errors (such as wrong patient, wrong document type, et cetera), and corrects and reports the errors.
• Verifies and updates legal names of all discharged newborns at the inpatient level.
• Facilitates amendment process for all patient amendment requests.
• Reviews assigned scanned documents that have missing information (such as MRN, Encounter,et cetera), identifies which record the documents should be indexed to, and indexes document to the appropriate record.
• Reviews and resolves scanned document interface errors.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, and/or other related field.
• Two (2) years of experience with an electronic medical record.
