Position Summary

The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist offers support as an important member of the health information management team by ensuring the quality maintenance of patient information/medical records, within all laws, rules and regulations of federal and state licensing agencies, and Joint Commission standards for the quality of patient care.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Maintain patient charts on the unit by ensuring all documentation is complete and accurate
  • Process patient charts including assembling and scanning discharge charts within 48 hours after discharge
  • Print transcriptions daily for Psychiatric Evaluations, H&P, Consults and Discharge Summaries
  • Correctly route assembled patient charts to physicians for signature or dictation and follow up as needed
  • Pull and refile onsite charts, order and return charts to and from off-site storage at Iron Mountain
  • Manage post discharge loose filing, maintain patient log and chart checkout log

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Two (2) years experience working in Medical Records/Health Information Management
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word is required
  • Effective Oral and Written Communication Skills
  • Basic clerical skills and ability to problem solve
  • Must be available to attend the full hospital and departmental orientations: Week 1: M-F 8 AM - 5 PM
