Job Summary:

NATURE OF WORK

The Assistant Research Professor position with the Department of Immunology & Microbiology is an at-will employment. Candidates should have research interests and experience in human immunology, with expertise in quality-control and analysis of multiplexed imaging techniques to support other PIs in the department and research core labs. The primary duties are to develop novel computational tools for robust, reproducible, and rapid analysis of multiplexed images and flow cytometry data to further the quality and quantity of research publications on campus.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The individual holding the position will report directly to the Chair of the Department of Immunology & Microbiology and to the Director of the Human Immune Monitoring Shared Resources core facility.

SUPERVISION PROVIDED

The person holding the advertised position will be responsible for the training, supervision, and evaluation of personnel (students, professional research assistants and research associates) whose positions are funded by the individual's or collaborator's research grants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and provide the expertise for state-of-the-art computational tools and novel analysis methods that allow for a robust, reproducible, and rapid analysis of multiplexed images and flow cytometry data. The aim is to create a self-sustainable position to further the quality and quantity of research publications on campus through individual projects, collaborations, and fee-for-service work.

The duties and responsibilities of the individual holding the position include:

• The individual will work towards the goal of a self-sustainable position by formulating short- and long-term research goals, by applying for appropriate grant application from federal or private agencies to secure funding, and by partnering with faculty members to develop collaborative research grant applications. To facilitate collaborative research.
• The individual is expected to present current research at appropriate venues and scientific meetings to increase awareness of the research being performed and to publish research findings in appropriate peer-reviewed journals.
• Flexibility in working schedule may be necessary for the his faculty position, but no "on-call" or shift work is required.

In addition, the individual will offer fee-for-service work through the Human Immune Monitoring Shared Resource cost center to support local researchers with analysis of their multiplexed image and flow cytometry data.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

The advertised position requires a PhD, MD, or comparable doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences with at least four years of professional experience as research associate or post-doctoral fellow within the field of immunology. Experience in immunology, cell biology, structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, mass/optical spectroscopy, and closely related fields is necessary. The applicant must be generally familiar with the theoretical principles for and have first-hand experience with the instrumentation involved in multiplexed imaging (mass spectrometry imaging, fluorescence microscopy) and flow cytometry. In addition, the applicant must be experienced with the integration of existing and the implementation of novel data processing pipelines to analyze and report the acquired cellular data. A strong computational background plus fluency in the computational languages C, R, Rust, and Python is required to maintain and prototype efficient computational data pipelines. The applicant must have a strong publication record, a demonstrated ability to obtain outside funding sources, and experience in supervising and training research personnel.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$70,000 - $100,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
