Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Hospital Attendants are valuable members of our team. The Primary role of the hospital attendant on L&D is anesthesia stocking. This function has been coordinated with the anesthesia team since L&D does not have anesthesia techs. The hospital attendant also may not provide direct patient care. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent intrapersonal skills and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization.

Duties of a Hospital Attendant may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Adheres to mission and values of Stony Brook University Medical Center
  • Maintains a safe patient environment by keeping hallways and fire doors free from clutter
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment for patients, visitors and personnel
  • Assists in the organization and restocking of needed supplies on the unit
  • Assists with room turnover including stripping of room and resetting up the room
  • Assists in maintaining par of hospital equipment and unit specific equipment
  • Contact appropriate department re: equipment and survey equipment needed for repair
  • Return unnecessary equipment or supplies
  • Generate requests through BME for broken equipment and generate work orders through physical plant for needed repairs on the unit
  • Cleans equipment in accordance with recommendations
  • Assists in transporting and accompanying patients to various areas in the hospital as required
  • Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information
  • Participates in the orientation of new employees as directed by unit leadership
  • Communicates and works effectively on a daily basis with other staff and other departments
  • Maintains a supportive, collegial relationship with fellow staff members
  • Uses supplies and equipment on the unit in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Orders supplies and equipment
  • Housekeeping duties as needed
  • Maintain compliance with Infection Control polices


Qualifications

Required: Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor.

Preferred: Previous experience working in a hospital setting and/or in the hospital industry. Possess excellent intrapersonal skills, time management skills, have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization.

This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $33,408.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all full-time CSEA positions have an additional $3,400 for location,
