Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Description
1. Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility by assisting with development, maintenance, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
2. Oversee and ensure all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
3. Maintain the department's policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies are being followed.
4. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, completing accident/incident reports as necessary etc., while the Unit Managers are not present.
5. Attends and is an active participant in various committee meetings of the facility (i.e., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, Care Plan Committee, etc.) as required and is prepared to implement recommendations as instructed by the Director of Nursing.
6. Provide feedback to the Director the equipment needs of the nursing services department keeping within budgetary guidelines and regulations.
7. Ensure that an adequate stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., is maintained on premises at all times to meet the needs of the residents while working the off-shifts.
8. Participate in developing a preventive maintenance program for maintaining the nursing service department's equipment and supplies in a safe and operable manner.
9. Ensures that care plan and assessment duties, are performed in accordance with the Unit Manager job description.
10. Coordinates care between units and relays pertinent information to Physicians/NP's.
11. Must maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information; and adhere to Resident's rights.
12. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
13. Be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
14. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
15. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
16. Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
17. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
18. Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
19. Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.

21. Performs other work related / personal nursing care duties as requested.
22. Challenges current working practices; identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management. Qualifications
· Must possess a current, unencumbered, active RN/ LPN license to practice as an RN or LPN in this state;
· Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/LVN program;
· Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language;
· Minimum, one (1) year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility preferred;
· Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices;
· BLS /CPR and AED Program Certification;
· Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
· Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
