What you will be doing:
    1. Developing maps in ArcGIS for Safe Routes to School and other programs
    2. Assisting with crash data querying, cleanup, and analysis
    3. Reviewing project applications
    4. Benchmarking and summarizing new and relevant research related to traffic safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, speed management, etc.

Official Position Description:

In the Office of Systems Planning & Program Management, works under close supervision of the Highway Safety Program staff in the Division of Planning. Utilizes computer & related software (e.g., Microsoft Word & Excel) to assist in literature search, collection, processing & analyzing data & in preparing preliminary reports in connection to preventing traffic crashes. Assists in developing & executing public outreach programs to reduce crashes associated with seat belt use, drunk driving, distracted driving, bicycle, & pedestrian travel, etc. Assists in preparation of exhibits & background literature for meetings. Assists in use & development of outreach technologies & visualization techniques.

Creates simple spreadsheets & performs general clerical tasks (e.g. enters data on reports, performs simple calculations, & maintains filing). Operates personal computer to run programs, enter data, read maps & simple plan sheets, & perform basic mathematical calculations.

This is a temporary position involving various duties that permit exposure to the student's field of study &/or provide experience that is a useful addition to the student's education & meaningful preparation for future professional employment.
