The George Washington University Hospital houses state-of-the-art Intensive Care Units (ICUs), designed to provide specialized care for critically ill patients. Our ICU service line includes the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU).
Job Summary
GWUH is seeking a dedicated and skilled ICU Nursing Manager to lead and oversee our ICU departments. This leadership role is critical to ensuring high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and a positive team culture. The ICU Nursing Manager will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide safe and effective patient care while driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position will have oversight of all ICU units, including MICU, SICU, CVICU, and Neuro ICU.

About GW Hospital's ICU Units
The George Washington University Hospital houses state-of-the-art Intensive Care Units (ICUs), designed to provide specialized care for critically ill patients. Our ICU service line includes the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU).
- Medical ICU (MICU): 20 beds providing care for patients with complex medical conditions, including respiratory failure, sepsis, and multi-organ dysfunction.
- Surgical ICU (SICU): 12 beds focused on post-operative care for trauma, transplant, and other surgical patients requiring intensive monitoring and life support.
- Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU): 15 beds dedicated to patients recovering from open-heart surgeries, vascular interventions, and other cardiovascular complications.
- Neuro ICU: 10 beds specializing in the care of patients with neurological emergencies, such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, and post-neurosurgical care.
Job Summary

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical and operational leadership to the ICU nursing teams, ensuring the delivery of excellent care for critically ill patients.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation to meet the fluctuating demands of ICU patient care.
- Promote and ensure adherence to hospital policies, safety standards, and evidence-based care protocols.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professional development, and staff engagement.
- Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and allied health professionals to coordinate and enhance patient care across all ICU units.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives to optimize patient outcomes and nursing practice.
- Serve as a mentor and role model to ICU nursing staff, promoting continuous education and professional growth.
- Oversee unit-based budgets and resource management, ensuring efficient use of hospital resources.
- Lead efforts in patient and staff satisfaction, focusing on safety and excellent patient care experiences.

- Current RN license in the state of Washington, D.C., or be DC eligible.
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in critical care, with 2+ years in a leadership or management role in an ICU setting.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with ICU operations, quality metrics, and staffing management.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
