CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION (CI) DIVISION - The CI Division is part of the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (TLA) Division alongside the Assessment Division and the Educator Quality Division. Why does the job exist?

This position will serve as an Education Administrator for the Public Education Department in the Curriculum and Instruction Division. This position is responsible for providing timely and relevant customer service, technical assistance, supports to districts, charter schools and Tribes across the state implementing the Indian Education Act. Specifically, the Education administrator provides instructional leadership specific and meaningful feedback, and informational resources to districts, schools and Tribes. Additionally, the Education Administrator assists the Bureau with data analysis, program evaluation and monitoring via desktop auditing and instruction to provide assistance to school districts and Tribes int he planning, development, implementation and evaluation of curricula in native languages, culture and history designed for tribal and non-tribal students and in alignment with MLSS and accelerated learning practices. Expertise in the use of content standards and curriculum design and implementation is expected.

General Job Duties
1. Prepares and disseminates fact-based, tools (including professional development, technical assistance, presentations, reports and web content) to assist LEAs other government agencies, as appropriate, in implementing the Indian Education Act and the implementation of the Agency's strategic plan
2. Keeps current with relevant trends and research directly related to Curriculum and Instruction Division focus areas of culturally and linguistically diverse students, including Native American students.
3. Plans, develops and supports implementation of methods, needs, technical assistance, and professional learning for the implementation of the Indian Education Act.
4. Effectively engages in proactive program monitoring via desktop auditing via SharePoint and other relevant internal information systems and platforms (STARS, AS400, etc.) and provides appropriate recommendations to Division Director as well as technical assistance to LEAs.
5. Provides a high degree of communicative/informative internal and external customer service on a daily basis, while maintaining a courteous and positive attitude with all stakeholders, with accuracy and expediency.
6. Effectively uses internal application tools to review Indian Education Act applications, reporting and program plans (Acceleration, MLSS, PD, etc.).
7. Prepares correspondence with minimal revisions required and makes edits/revisions when necessary.
8. Supports the Division Director by providing techni9cal assistance and expertise on a variety of Division initiatives, providing input and recommendations using strong evidential support (research, data, etc.) to execute the Division's mission, vision, and goals.

Data Analysis
1. Effectively uses internal databases, research, and other information to generate relevant student/district/school-level data with expediency and a high degree of accuracy.
2. Prepares written reports and oral presentations with clarity and accuracy.
3. Interfaces with other relevant internal bureaus at NMPED, LEAs, SEAs and Federal agencies as appropriate.
4. High degree of knowledge around relevant state and federal regulation with specific focus on the Indian Education Act, including willingness to learn and update such expertise.
Other Agency/Division Support
1. Provides administrative support to the Division in meeting deadlines and accomplishing tasks through collaborative effort and contrigubi9tn to team work and goals.
2. Other job-related and relevant duties/tasks as assigned by the Division Director, such as providing specialized technical assistance and supporting other bureaus/divisions within NMPED on interrelated projects and tasks.

Who are the customers?

Customers include district personnel (superintendents, principals, administrators, teachers, etc.), RECs and other external partners, and agency personnel across all bureaus and divisions.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal Candidate:
Preferred applicant will have working knowledge and experience in the education of Native American students and in utilizing the New Mexico Multi-Layered System of Support (MLSS) (i.e., implementation at the state, district or school level).
Preferred applicant will have working knowledge and experience utilizing the New Mexico Instructional Scope (NMIS) (i.e., implementation at the state, district, or school level).
Preferred applicant will be a certified educator (any age band k-12) in the state of NM at the administrative &/or teacher Level 2 or above.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
