The position requires the ability to independently research and analyze taxpayer information from a variety of sources.

The general purpose of this position is to perform a variety of compliance examinations, control and public assistance duties relative to the preparation, payment and collection of various state taxes in an efficient and effective manner with the highest level of customer focus and accuracy. The primary focus is to improve the compliance of taxpayers that are currently not filing individual tax returns with the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

•Day-to-day operation of ITS
•Work potential compliance leads that have been identified by the system and program director
•Confirm accuracy of tax calculations on outbound notices
•Communicate with management and other personnel to resolve issues
Apply State and Federal tax laws, rules, regulations, and other legal resources in identifying and resolving technical tax problems.
Creating new/additional tax liabilities
Perform account and financial maintenance

Job Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED
•Ability to interpret and apply tax laws and regulations to various situations.
•Working knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping.
•Basic knowledge of, Microsoft Word, Excel.
•Using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
•Ability to apply and understand ethics and confidentiality laws.
•Exceptional ability to discuss and settle technical tax matters in a tactful and responsive manner with taxpayers and tax practitioners using customer service skills for problem resolution.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

Incumbent reports directly to supervisor or working lead.

Difficulty of Work:

Incumbent must use considerable amount of judgment in the selection, interpretation and application of numerous laws, rules, regulations and procedures in connections with individual and unique cases and situations.

Responsibility:

The supervisor indicates purpose and desired results of the work. The supervisor provides technical instructions on procedures. Unusual problems or deviations from guidelines are discussed with the supervisor at the employee's discretion. Work requires incumbent to logically make many choices and decisions on non-standardized and varied problems. Incumbent follows general work instructions and uses considerable judgment in selecting applicable laws, interpretations, and policies.

Work is periodically reviewed upon completion to determine quality and soundness of judgment. Incumbent has final authority in many decisions and errors may not be readily apparent. Errors may cause significant inconveniences and financial loss to State of Indiana and taxpayer.
