Shermco US is seeking a Project Based Industrial Field Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

Support both administrative and construction activities as assigned by supervisor. This position performs the routine aspects of field or cost engineering assignments requiring knowledge of basic engineering.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills. Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications. Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions.
  • Develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered. Take corrective actions as needed.
  • Inspect work for compliance with the contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, explain, and take any necessary corrective action.
  • Listen to directions and suggestions from supervisors or other employees regarding safe and proper work practices. Evaluate that information to devise and implement a plan based on that evaluation for carrying out the duties of this position.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
  • Occasionally lift and carry heavy items.
  • Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas.
  • Work up to a 12-hour shift, possibly in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions.
  • Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds within OSHA regulations.
  • Identify workplace safety hazards and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize them.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. back-up alarms, smell of smoke, different colored warning tags, warning sirens.)
  • Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Be motivated and work productively.
  • Perform surveys and layouts for excavations and concrete structures based on contract drawings.
  • Read and understand drawings; confer with supervisor to determine layout requirements.
  • Perform quantity take-offs from drawings for purchasing of materials or for planning and scheduling work.
  • Perform quantity surveys of excavated or installed materials.
  • Perform quality control tests and inspections to include preparation of quality control documentation.
  • Prepare as-built drawings to include field measurements and drafting.
  • Write requisitions and purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to expedite deliveries, as assigned by a supervisor.
  • Receive and log drawings and other contract documents, maintain document control log; ensure that current drawings are issued to the field, and voided drawings are retrieved and filed.
  • In addition, perform any other job-specific duties as requested by supervisor.


EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Must have proven abilities and skills in the following: communication (verbal and written), planning and organization. Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity for his/her co-workers. The title of engineer requires a baccalaureate degree in a construction-related field of engineering or equivalent experience and education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • The Field Engineer I must be a self-starter, be organized and have good interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel, power point and outlook.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and software packages needed to support the documentation, analysis and retention of quality records.
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage task independently.
  • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints and technical procedures.
  • Write daily reports and document project activities
  • Effectively collect and record field data to assure activities are conforming to corporate Quality Control procedures. Ensures the effective implementation of the quality control program for assigned project task.
  • Calculate figures and amounts and able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly and interface effectively with a diverse group of field level employees.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Willing to work flexible hours and shifts, including overtime and night shift.
  • Jobsites work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
  • Be comfortable with physical work that requires climbing stairs and ladders frequently.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Should be able to pass a fit for duty physical exam when required
