Ideal Candidate

Will have prior experience in maintenance best practices and procedures that support the duties, responsibilities and skill sets required of an Industrial Mechanic. This position deals with maintenance of lift stations, water, wastewater, and reclaimed water treatment equipment such as, but not limited to the following: pumps (centrifugal, split case, submersible, positive displacement, diaphragm, vertical turbine) valves, piping, gearboxes, air systems, gas compressors, gas service turbine generator, grit chambers and chemical systems (sodium hypochlorite, Hydrofluorosilicic acid, Aqueous ammonia, Sodium aluminate, and Sodium hydroxide caustic soda). This candidate will be able to troubleshoot and repair any of the above listed equipment as well as perform predictive and preventative maintenance utilizing the following tools and technologies; perform alignments on pumps and motors, utilize laser alignment equipment on blowers and motors; be able to perform vibration and ultrasound testing on motors, gearboxes, pumps, and blowers with provided vibration and ultrasound tools. Candidate should possess advanced knowledge of preventative maintenance practices, procedures and technics for lubrication and greasing of all above equipment. Candidates should have some background in Stick, TIG or MIG welding and PVC, CPVC, and flanged piping repairs. Candidates will be willing to work overtime as needed, must understand that participation in a 24/7 afterhours standby rotation program is required after successful completion of probation. Candidates should possess basic computer skills with standard software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc. and knowledge of a computer operated work management system. Some positions may require possession of a CDL driver's license and/or a collection license.

Job Overview

Industrial Mechanic performs entry maintenance, fabrication, overhaul and repair of mechanical equipment located within a water, wastewater, or reclaimed treatment sewer pump station or LPSS facilities. Assists and/or leads crews in a broad range of preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and new equipment installations, and assists with planning and estimating costs of maintenance work.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews system designs, specifications, and products, attends pre-construction meetings, and recommends changes in water/wastewater/reclaim facilities mechanical systems.
  • Monitors, reviews and validates work practices for quality control assurance of wastewater processes and to ensure adherence to safety standards in operation of water/wastewater/reclaim water facilities.
  • Trouble-shoots problems and recommends corrective actions based on skilled knowledge of mechanical repair practices.
  • Inputs and gathers data from Supervisory Control Data Acquisition system (SCADA), and Comprehensive Asset Management System (CAMS).
  • Runs reports as necessary.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and corrective repair work on water/wastewater/reclaim facilities and equipment.
  • Fabricates and machines repair parts for equipment, with the ability to weld steel, brass, and aluminum.
  • Operates lathes, mill/drill presses, welder and various other metal working power tools as needed.
  • May direct and/or oversee the work of other employees, provide instruction, guidance, and training as required.
  • Locates leaks, and detects defects in water/wastewater/reclaim equipment in conformance to established plans and standards.
  • Expected to temporarily perform duties outside normal classification in the event of a declared emergency.
  • Operates a personal computer and work in software programs associated with job.
  • Completes various maintenance jobs on buildings and grounds.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
