The Information Security System Administrator is a hands-on role that requires a high level of technical expertise. The Information Security Systems Administrator is responsible for a broad range of tasks, including the day-to-day administration of cybersecurity tools and devices, as well as first-level and second-level support for security information and event management (SIEM). The Information Security Systems Administrator is responsible for implementing, maintaining, monitoring and managing secure technology solutions that align with business needs. The Information Security System Administrator should be adept at dealing with disparate applications and data systems to maintain the level of rigor required to adhere to business direction.
Responsibilities
  • Perform system security administration on designated technology platforms, including operating systems, applications and network security devices, in accordance with the defined policies, standards and procedures of the organization, as well as with industry best practices and vendor guidelines
  • Perform installation and configuration management of security systems and applications, including policy assessment and compliance tools, network security appliances and host-based security systems
  • Perform threat and vulnerability assessments, in some cases followed by appropriate remedial action, to ensure that systems are protected from known and potential threats and are free from known vulnerabilities
  • Apply patches where appropriate and, at the direction of Security Operations Manager, removes or otherwise mitigates known control weaknesses, such as unnecessary services or applications or redundant user accounts, as a means of hardening systems in accordance with security policies and standards
  • Responds to and, where appropriate, resolves or escalates reported security incidents
  • Monitors system logs, SIEM tools and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interprets such activity and makes recommendations for resolution
  • Investigates and resolves security violations by providing postmortem analysis to illuminate the issues and possible solutions
  • Locates and repairs security problems and failures
  • Monitor and maintain security incident and event data to produce monthly exception and management reports
  • Handle day-to-day implementation, monitoring and operational support of hardware, software, customer applications, managed solutions and service provider relationships.
  • Actively participate in security team meetings that facilitate secure design.
  • Assist with incident response and system stability issues as they occur. This may include involvement outside of regular work hours, and responsiveness is expected
  • Reports unresolved network security exposures, misuse of resources or noncompliance situations using defined escalation processes
  • Assists and trains junior team members in the use of security tools, the preparation of security reports and the resolution of security issues
  • Develops and maintains documentation for security systems and procedures
  • Researches, recommends, evaluates and implements cybersecurity solutions that identify and/or protect against potential threats, and respond to security violations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, MIS or related field (or additional years of directly related experience, above the minimum, will be considered)
  • Minimum of 6 years of information technology experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cybersecurity as a practitioner
  • Strong Linux and Windows support skills
  • Knowledge of traditional security controls and technologies, such as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), public key infrastructure (PKI), identity and access management (IDAM) systems, antivirus and firewalls, in addition to newer offerings such as endpoint detection and response (EDR), threat intelligence platforms, security automation and orchestration, deception technologies and application controls
  • Experience with database security, content filtering, vulnerability scanning and anti-malware
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex security requirements
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining complex schedules and providing support
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about all information
  • Proven experience collaborating with technical and non-technical teams to promote ideas to support business enablement
