This role is expected to provide temporary full-time hours before moving to a fully on-call position.

A little taste of your day-to-day

Handle room service orders via phone from guests. Ensure orders are accurately posted to the appropriate guest account.

Every day is different but mostly you'll be
  • Answering the telephone within prescribed number of rings, efficiently and professionally handling multiple incoming calls at once.
  • Articulating and repeating each order to the guest before hanging up, always using the guest name and title.
  • Following established script to encourage up-selling.
  • Giving guests the approximate time of delivery.
  • Correctly entering all pertinent information of an order including special items, cooking meat instructions, no seasoning (MSG, salt), etc.
  • Closing checks to correct guest room accounts.
  • Printing reports and/or completing paperwork at the end of shift.
  • Promoting teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Coordinating VIP deliveries with appropriate departments.
  • May assist with other duties as assigned.


What we need from you

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year experience in a similar position dealing with general public in a food & beverage setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience upselling or other sales position preferred.

Language - t o perform the job successfully, an individual will demonstrate proficient use of the English language as defined here. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math - ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning - ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Tech Savvy - to perform this job successfully, an individual will have knowledge of and point of sales systems and reservations software/systems.

Flexibility - this is an on-call position and may be required to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and/or holidays.

What you can expect from us

The hourly pay range for this role is $22.185 to $29.58. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed at InterContinental San Francisco. This is the lowest to highest pay scale we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
