Position Summary:

Performs precision dimensional inspections and layouts on castings, forgings, sheet metal, machined parts, assemblies, gages, fixtures and tooling. Works from approved sketches or drawings on development and production programs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Dimensionally inspects to exacting tolerances, castings, forgings, machined parts, sheet metal parts and assemblies furnished by vendors or fabricated in-house.

  • Inspects machined parts for proper material, processes, completion of operations, workmanship and conformance to engineering approved sketches, drawings and specifications.

  • Performs first article inspections at the machine or assembly and provides and accept or reject decision.

  • Inspects functional gages, fixtures, molds, dies, tooling, etc., for conformance to drawings. Where the drawing lacks definition, conducts first article inspections of the resultant product to determine acceptance or rejection of the functional gages, fixtures etc.

  • Prepare and maintain required inspection reports and records.

  • Assist in the activities of other inspectors as directed. Perform related work requiring equal or lesser skill.

• Operates the 3-Axis Coordinate Measuring Machine for the inspection of complex parts.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required.

• Ability to use all types of inspection instruments and precision measuring devices. Ability to make coordination checks to tolerances and make part layouts to establish inspection reference lines and points. Read blueprints and drawings and have a basic knowledge of positional tolerance. Knowledge of plain and solid geometry, trigonometry and related mathematics required of making accurate measurement checks.

• Possess knowledge of shop practices and have a knowledge of processes normally used by the company. Knowledge of inspection requirements, company quality standards and military specifications. Ability to keep accurate inspection records.

Education, Experiences, Certificates/Licenses and/or Registrations:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

High School Diploma or GED, OR

A combination of the above, and 10 + years' experience in aerospace Quality Assurance.

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods and stand to perform work. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

1. Occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs.

2. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.

3. Safety glasses, shop coat/apron, proper shoes.

4. Occasional exposure to shop element such as noise, dust, odors and fumes.

Typical Materials, Tools and Equipment Used:

Materials worked on: All ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys, carbon fibers and plastics

Materials worked with: Coolants, cutting oils and abrasives, polishing paper, abrasives and compounds.

Tools used: Machinists' hand tools, precision measuring instruments and variety gages. GITS test machine.

Equipment used: High and low speed honing machines, all types of flat and cylindrical lapping machines and various types of high speed polishing lathes.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: \$36.44/hr.- \$39.37/hr.
